Looks like goal-line technology moves closer - as a practical on-pitch utility! One watch and one second, that is all that will be required, and twenty four cameras! Is it safe to say:Have no fear, GoalMinder is here! yet? From Sky report in the first leg of testing, with a total of 24 cameras, 8 in each post, it would set back a 100 grand [quid] per pitch, so it is unlikely it could be adopted at regional competitive league levels. Long live Barnes, Parden and others, to reap the benefits of their investments. (financially rewarding too - http://on.ft.com/uAaWCW)
It would be interesting to see how far down the line something like the Champions League would require it. Group Stage games? Obviously having it in the first qualifying round between the Andorran and Belarusian champions might not be financially viable for those clubs.
So will this require two more pages of pictures in the Laws, showing goalpost cross-sections with GoalMinder installed? There was one picture that looked like a bunch of colored mats on the goal line - if it works with all that background noise, it should work with players' bodies falling into the goal just as the ball scores.
