It's my first year playing soccer, and I want to be a keeper. A bad habit I have when dropping the ball from my hands and kicking it is sometimes the ball goes off the side of my foot and doesn't go straight,it would go out of play. What could I be doing wrong and how could I correct the problem? Also, what techniques should I use to get a good goal kick? Thanks
Your kicking the ball too soon and low. What you need is practice, practice, practice. If your unsure of yourself, drop the ball and kick from the ground.
Make sure your toe is pointed and just practice punting the ball up against a wall (that has no windows on it) and for goal kicks the same thing. I always came from the side of the ball and took about 5 steps. The way to get a good goal kick is to strengthen up your quads though.
Taking Goal Kicks Take goal kicks with the laces part of your foot when your foot is parallel to the ground. Get a good kick under the ball, and it should fly high and far. If you still don't know what I mean, watch keepers on television. They have a 'soccer on TV finder,' on <soccer.com>. Good Luck!
Goalie hey I am the Goalie at Coastal Carolina University (#9 team in the nation D1). Drop the ball in front of you a little more and try to hit it with your laces. Or just aim a little more to the oppistie side that you kick it to and that will help alot. It dosent have to go straight just go were you want it to. and try the drop kick sometimes to.
