So did this guy Arguably one of the best technical goals in the history of football Obrigado Ronaldinho
Platini and Maradona both scored a free kick from less than 18 yards, lifting the ball over the wall. Those are the only two goals of that nature that I’ve ever seen.
Stanley Matthews vs Czechoslovakia 1937 (2:47) Or Lionel Messi vs Manchester United 2011 (2:48) (which reminds me that the Villa goal is more similar and comparable to the Stone one than the Mhango one is...but I'd been thinking of using the Mhango one with some goal or other anyway and the one by Stone came to mind for one with some slight similarity and sometimes maybe it's more interesting to compare goals that are at least a bit different anyway I think)
I was thinking about goals originating from goalkeeper kicks, and came up with these two comparisons. I'm biased enough to include two Nottingham Forest goals, but not enough to claim they should be the chosen ones in each comparison probably (even though one is even against Forest, I'm thinking the other two would probably take the verdicts...but maybe some other posters have other ideas for goals from goal-kicks too, even though these 4 including the Forest ones are exceptional so not straightforward to 'beat' maybe): Frankie Vercauteren (Belgium vs Paraguay 1986 World Cup) vs Garry Birtles (Nottingham Forest, away vs Middlesbrough 1978/79) from 0:51 Bryan Roy (Nottingham Forest vs Malmo 1995/96) from 0:51 also funnily enough (the goals from the other leg of the tie are before that) vs Glenn Hoddle (Tottenham Hotspur vs Nottingham Forest 1979/80)
Van Basten is my fav. Audacity and imagination to shot from there is ridiculous. And I like James' for some reason. It's so fluid and easy on the eye
I thought there were some good goals in the Premier League yesterday: team goals (especially Brighton) and some neatly worked/taken individual finishes, but the obvious two to pick out for this thread seem to be two volleys, to go against each other: Scamacca vs Wolves (1:02) Almiron at Fulham (from 1:34)
I was trying to think of the most appropriate goal to put against this one Mitoma just scored vs Liverpool in the FA Cup In a way I think the Bergkamp vs Argentina one (also because it was a late goal), so as nothing else is coming to mind right now I'll go with that @Isaías Silva Serafim showed me this recently that Kimmich scored, also late in a game From 2:10 I think a good one to compare with that is the Frings goal from World Cup 2006 vs Costa Rica
I'm possibly making a mistake in posting goals that are too similar (because then it's harder for anyone to prefer one, or rate it as better, maybe), but maybe the thread has lost it's original theme a bit anyway, so I'm going with these next.... Roberto Baggio in Fiorentina-Ascoli 1989/90 vs Kaka in the 2005 Confederations Cup Final (at 2:41) I think probably Messi's best free-kick, vs Atletico 12/13 vs Zico with one of his best free-kicks, and a similar one to Messi's (4:09)
How about a comparison between two of the best (or 'near perfect') examples of a specific type of goal - wide free-kick into the top corner, and lob volley from the edge of the box: Lajos Detari (vs Poland 1987) Trevor Francis (vs Aston Villa 1989)
How about Andres Iniesta (vs Chelsea 2009) vs Scot Gemmill (vs Aston Villa 1992, from 1:12:40 on video - this video and the Iniesta one need to be watched on Youtube it seems) I guess it needs the 'context' taken out to compare them probably (or even for me to suggest that on these occasions Kingsley Black's contribution might have been better than Lionel Messi's lol, or that Gary Crosby's was about the same as Messi's in terms of the final assist!). The goalie does get a bit of a touch on Gemmill's shot I think though.
