I've have long had the impression that at least a thrid of goals scored in the top divisions were from set pieces. And this season's MLS results suggest that an extraordinary percentage of goals occur in the latter stages of the game. Does anyone have -- or know where one can find -- these types of stats? I'd like to know if these impressions are supported by fact, or merely mis-impressions. Goal Stats that would be of interest: - percentage of all goals scored from set pieces - percentage of penalties converted - percentage of tallies by substitutes - distribution of goals by minute of the game - frequency of own goals - percentage of goals scored by strikers/midfielders/defenders
You have just defined the difference between US Soccer and the rest of the world. Only in the US will you find someone obsessed with statistics and percentages. For the rest of the world its only good soccer or bad soccer. Good players or bad players.
