It's the same, I have no way of obtaining detailed data for most of Kempes matches with the argentine NT, especially from his early years.
I think you should count the calendar year in those cases. Is there any issue arising if you do it like this?

@Trachta10 have you considered doing the one for ucl? Ive done some work already on the forum: Is Messi's CL Legacy Disappointing? Is Messi's CL Legacy Disappointing? Unfortunately work before that ahs been deleted.
On twitter the user @Mhmds702 is doing it for the entire career, he'll probably finish in a couple of days.
*I made a mistake with Messi. I excluded goals from outside the box where he also made a pre-assist, so I accidentally deducted a couple. Pelé's pre-assists also went down slightly because I found data for another goal. National Team Only Goals from open play receiving the ball outside the box Pelé: 45% Messi: 44.16% Ronaldo: 41.51% Maradona: 37.04% Cristiano: 22.33% Pre-assisting their own goals Messi: 20.78% Pelé: 11.67% Maradona: 11.11% Ronaldo: 3.77% Cristiano: 0.97%

The best Specialist that I know all over the entire world.. it's Trachta @ He can Also find Assistance difficult .... harder Assists to find out always by Johan Cruyff.. Ferenc Puskas Di Stefano.. and Edson Arantes Pelé.. He has older Journals showing us the Assists or Contributions in general . He did it once between Diego Maradona, Michel Platini, Zico... Assistance (Opta) and Assistance (non-Opta) I usually I count assists as Direct and Indirect .
Thierry Henry Career Statistics 1994-2014 I posted on this thread a couple of years ago with my sheet of Thierry Henry's game-by-game career stats. I previously was missing around 25 games worth of data from his monaco years, but since then have managed to fill in almost all of these missing games. With great assistance from @wm442433 in looking through french newspaper archives from the 90's, i've been able to find data for all but 2 of Henry's matches. For reference (if anyone has other sources) the two missing games are: 11/12/1996 Coupe de la ligue Monaco 3-3 Troyes 5/1/1998 Coupe de la ligue Monaco 1-1 Chamois Niort (possible penalty assist) My data is collated from video, with opta assists being recorded for consistency (no rebounded shots, deflected passes etc.) The previous reviews of Henry's career stats have come from spanish wikipedia sources but these are largely inflated and incorrect. My spreadsheet is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_HJ20Nape5WVbmaE0BRUoFMwWCFe0qqiFR_TzAg3le8/edit?usp=sharing Total stats for each team: Monaco: 141 Games played, 7337 minutes 28 Goals 13 Assists 1 Penalty Assist Juventus Total: 20 Games played, 16 Starts, 1398 minutes. 2 Goals 2 Assists Arsenal Total: 377 Games played, 338 Starts, 30568 minutes. 228 Goals (27 pens) 98 Assists 11 Penalty Assists (3 scored himself). Barcelona Total: 121 Games played, 100 Starts, 8544 minutes. 49 Goals 26 Assists 1 Penalty Assist NY Red Bulls Total: 135 Games played, 122 Starts, 11,486 minutes. 52 Goals 41 Assists 3 Penalty Assists France: 123 Games played, 106 Starts, 9180 minutes. 51 Goals (1 pen) 27 Assists 3 Penalty Assists. Career Total 917 Games Played, 68513 mins 411 Goals (28 pens), 208 Assists, 19 Penalty Assists (3 scored himself)
Estimation of Opta Pre-Assists, strict criteria: Direct pass→Direct pass→Goal For Pelé in 117 games analysed, he Pre-Assisted arround 15.7% of the team's goals (excluding those he scored or assisted). That gives me around 120 Opta Pre-Assists in 819 games. Including Non-Opta actions like GK rebound, Post rebound, etc: (Pelé has to do a direct pass, and is the player that make the assist that do the Non-Opta assist). The percentage goes to 23% of Team's goals Pre-Assisted. It can goes to 180 Pre-Assists in 819 games. For Maradona: In Napoli, in 259 games he has 27 Opta Pre-Assists, that is arround 15% of Team's goals Pre-Assisted. Added to more games I have analysed on video, I estimate that he could have arround 68 Opta Pre-Assists in 680 games, a 14.8% of the team's goals (excluding those he scored or assisted). I don't have data for Non-Opta actions. Lionel Messi: In 988 games analysed he has 159 Opta Pre-Assists, 16.7% of the team's goals. And 50 Non-Opta Pre-Assists, The percentage goes to 22% of Team's goals Pre-Assisted In a few days I will have the complete data on Messi, but in the meantime I estimate In 1083 games arround 175 Opta Pre-Assists. Cristiano Ronaldo: In this video I found 55 Opta Pre-Assists He Pre-Assisted arround 4.4% of the team's goals (excluding those he scored or assisted). For Cristiano, I have a friend who is going to analyze the data thoroughly, and in a few days, he'll also send me the complete data, so it might change a bit. This would be the total participation in the team's goals: Goals Assists (Opta) Assists (Non-Opta) Pre-Assists (Opta) (estimation) Explanation: In this case, Pelé's percentage is 5.95% because I am only using the 120 Opta Pre-Assists and not excluding the player's own goals and assists, If I exclude his goals and assists, then his percentage goes up to 15.7%, as I mentioned at the beginning.
