Ordinarily I tend to put Van Basten in I should say though (maybe if I'd thought longer before posting I would have done here too) - even for an All-Time XI (albeit then I tend to pick a Christmas Tree system with one centre-forward so it can be him with Messi and Pele, or Pele and Maradona, behind, and Cruyff in the midfield 3). Probably I could swap Eusebio out for him, or even move Cruyff a line deeper and take out Zidane. Anyway that's irrelevant to Baggio's non-inclusion (I don't say it's not viable for someone to consider including Baggio in that post 1960 WW XI btw, and maybe some people would, but yeah for my call it seems a stretch I guess, and probably the majority would not do - not to say he hasn't been included high up in some lists or votes, such as the World Soccer poll in 1999 where he was in the top 20, very close to Gerd Muller and ahead of Zico actually) England Player Honours - World Soccer Players of the Century
Interestingly Puskás has a higher goal contribution % for Real Madrid than Baggio for Juventus https://x.com/Trachta10/status/1848172962425270645 https://x.com/Trachta10/status/1850398002394898874
Yeah, I suppose in effect Puskas was like a main striker for Real Madrid, with Di Stefano roaming around behind a lot, even though not a pure centre forward as such (still kind of inside left arguably it seems). For Hungary he was normally alongside Kocsis (who was a very decent assister/passer himself), with Hidegkuti often in the team too. So maybe it makes sense his contribution % can be higher with Real Madrid....
....yes ... Ferenc Puskas ... at ..Real Madrid ....years reminds me on Romário ...Barcelona years ... played often ... in the final third .... with Decision-making Power Out from this World .....composure ... leadership ... very very calm under-pressure always . had bobybalance ...strenght ...too .. Stats with Argentina NT Batistuta vs Messi vs Maradona Only World Cup/Copa America/Confederations Cup-Finalissima
I don't have any data on Kempes, it's actually quite difficult to find data on argentine football because there is no free online newspaper archives
@Trachta10 https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/was-maradona-overrated.2123900/page-13#post-42314872 Would it be possible to convert career stats of these players in seasons instead of calendar years like you did here? In particular the G+A% seperated by seasons would be tremendous for retrospective Ballon d'Or enthusiasts.
I was referring to the stats for the national team. Why did you choose Batigol and not Kempes? I think it makes more sense to put the 3 world cup winners
Lionel Messi in El Clásico Matches: 45 Goals: 26 (20 Clutch) (77%) Assists: 14 (10 Clutch) (71%) Non-Opta: 1 Pre-Assists: 7 Team Contribution 48/76: 63.16% Clutch Contribution 33/51: 64.71%
@Trachta10 what is the highest Team Contribution % you've ever encountered over a full club+NT season?
Pelé 1963: 74.55% Maradona 1980: 74% Pelé 1965: 71.71% Messi 18/19: 66.39% Messi 11/12: 64.74% Pelé 1960 to 1965 is like 70% average
The problem is that I'm not very sure how to consider a season when the player plays in a calendar-year league. From which months should I start and end?
