I think it wouldn't make a big difference of course, and it is arguable that this game shouldn't count, but in a way maybe the Serie A Play-Off game of 1989 could be seen as a 'final' I guess (as a qualification game for Europe, outside of the main season games)? Baggio has an assist in that one Maybe something more significant in his favour would be to expand to semi-finals too though for example, because then his 1992/93 and 1994/95 seasons would add several goals by him alone.... Already another notable one comes to mind instantly also of course (true that he missed a penalty in the Final afterwards, albeit semi-injured and tired too and 'failing' with his normal type of penalty...and he usually scored them) https://youtu.be/cawjXWI_lY0?feature=shared So yeah, I think finals are not the only 'big games' and some of them can occur before semi-finals stages too, or in league play also, and maybe Baggio is a case (not maybe actually, surely he is) where things look more favourable expanding beyond the final games (if it is something to do with 'the pressure' or even the pattern of final games I would find it difficult to say, but it won't be completely about that I guess anyway). I don't tend to think he was better than Puskas myself though, although you know I am less inclined than some to think newer players are better than older players typically in 'real terms'....it is a different kind of comparison but probably I even think Brian Laudrup was better than Eden Hazard and I guess many would think otherwise (but most people probably do at least think Puskas was 'greater' or better within own era compared to Baggio I guess). Baggio was probably a better dribbler and ball manipulator I think, but Puskas, in body action and in mind too was very decisive obviously in the final third of the pitch and a better shooter I think (maybe Baggio had a better instep curl...albeit the balls were easier to do it with in his time I guess, or a better half-volley technique or something...but overall Puskas was better equipped to score goals I think). Obviously Puskas had it easier to score goals in his era and in his teams he played for, but on the other hand the goal contributions method (although it is good in adjusting end product for eras in general) is more favourable to players who have a starring role, including/especially in terms of end product, in a lesser team, and Baggio played for more underdog teams (Fiorentina to an extent, Brescia, Bologna....) and played with less star attackers for his NT and in a lower scoring era too (so to an extent the method is biased towards showing his stats in a better light than Puskas...though on the other hand Puskas did have more help from other great players of his time in scoring and creating goals than Baggio did). I would feel more confident to suggest Puskas was better than Raul (as a vaguely similar type of player) and Pele was better than Baggio (as a vaguely similar type of player), but I do tend to think Puskas>Baggio as well (and certainly in historical terms more significant/great in football history). I hope that is readable enough overall lol!
An obvious point though is that it is impossible to see 'a lot' of games in which Puskas played, in full, of course (aside from the difficulties of comparing players playing in different times). Maybe that can mean many 'average' performances are not available to us to witness, although I'm sure it can also mean he scored some great goals and had some great assists that we aren't able to appreciate visually (even if there has been good work from Trachta and others on the numbers and contribution %s).
.... Puskas ... for me ... is at Group Pelé ... Messi ... Maradona ...Cruyff ... Di Stefano ... Gerd Muller ...Romário ...Ronaldo Nazario ..Michel Platini ... FRanz Beckenbauer ....Ruud Gullit ... Del Piero ...( before of the grave injuries ).... Meazza ... Zidane ... 1998 .. World Cup Final ahead ... Rivaldo maybe ... i need to see the him behaviour ... in Big Finals ... ... Roberto Baggio .. for me .. is Group ..Ronaldinho Gaucho ...Thierry Henry ...Dennis Bergkamp ... Michael Laudrup .... Jay Jay Okocha ..Francesco Totti ... Kaká ...Seedorf ...etc ...
but Puskas will shine still more including ..semi-finals ...quarter -Finals ... 32 or 16 Finals etc ... for example .. Ruud Gullit ... has 2 Assists ... and 1 Goal Header ... in 50 minutes played ... against Real Madrid ... in 1989 ... he was injured again and again .. came off .. from this match ..
I think I would rate Baggio ahead of Okocha, Seedorf, and to an extent Totti and Kaka. I would tend to think Puskas>Del Piero but Pele>Puskas. But yeah for 'own era' or even splitting football history in two then Puskas ranks higher than Baggio I think. Estimated XI for up to and including 1960 (or maybe a bit later if necessary to be sure to include Pele): Lev Yashin; Djalma Santos, Jose Nasazzi, Nilton Santos; Jozsef Bozsik, Duncan Edwards; Stanley Matthews, Alfredo Di Stefano, Tom Finney; Pele, Ferenc Puskas For since early 60s till now, even using the same WW line-up, I think Baggio would not be there probably: Peter Schmeichel; Carlos Alberto, Franco Baresi, Paolo Maldini; Franz Beckenbauer, Bobby Moore; Lionel Messi, Zinedine Zidane, Diego Maradona; Eusebio, Johan Cruyff But probably it is harder to get in the later XI (even with no Pele), and also it's harder to think about how each would do in the era of the other one (eg Baggio in 1950s Hungary or 1960 Real Madrid - I do think Puskas is a better fit for those teams probably though; or Puskas for early-mid 90s Juventus or 1988-1990 Fiorentina or 1994 Italy....).
