there is no doubt that dc is going to win the mls cup!!!!!!! we have the best goalie in the league, now have the best defence in the league, we now also have the best midfield and one of the best offences in the leage.............all of this equals up to a freakin powerhouse.........heres my predicted line-up.

    Rimando

    reyes petke nelson ivanov

    kovalenko etcheverry stewart convey

    eskanderian quarenta

note* stoitchkov will be playing lots in place of convey who will be with the u.s team several times

I read your title and thought for sure this was a Galaxy fan's thread.

I agree. I think I was the first to start that chant. New England will be very tough, but I think we'll do a worst to first and beat the puke from the west in the final

As a Metros fan, I have to say that the idea of Stoitchkov playing left half is something I would savor.

As a ten minute striker, he could get a few key goals, and if that happens, folks should be pretty happy. As a midfielder, he would be eaten alive.

I think Haig has the right idea here. And also, I might expect Ben Olsen to see a few minutes for this team. :D

    it's the kid's first post

Not like I've posted a ton...but we just started talking about starting line-up below earlier today!

Olsen will definitely see some serious minutes, likely starting minutes, and I agree that Nelson will play a defensive midfield role not in the back line.

Also, don't count your chickens before they hatch...the Metrodonkey's got pretty good in the offseason as well AND there are plenty of other solid line-ups out there (Crew, LA, SJ, NE.)

There will be some serious parity in this league, again. I think DC has as good a shot as anyone else though, no doubt. The big question is, how quickly can Hudson gell all these new pieces and find specific roles for everyone?

Also, Rimando is a great goalie, but the best? He's not even in the top 4 goalies on the US player pool!!

    Welcome aboard TheShow84.

I too think our team has improved from last season, but it has changed as well. We lost two of the most talented players in MLS (Moreno and Pope) in addition to a very good Dmid (Williams) and a truly gifted left wing mid prospect (Mapp).

Your lineup is aggressive, but even with that 4 man back line you'll need some defending in central midfield. Neither Etch nor Stewart can really provide that. Also, I think Stewart starting up top and Olsen on the right are as close to guaranteed starters as we have.

But your point is well taken, we have a lot more talent than before, and nobody is assured a spot in the starting lineup. Once again, glad to have you here TheShow84!

While I think DC has a very good shot at doing very well this year, I recall a lot of people saying the same thing about New England in 2002. The season has a lot of games before that final one, and as a Chicago fan who was in DC in 2000, I have to say that the game is never played on paper...

    Well...

Yes D.C. has got lots of talent now !!

I would say to much talent, to many superstars who are looking to make a mark in the league and they cant do that on the bench.

Alot of personalities that might clash, Can Stoichkov and Etcheverry get along managing the offense ?

With Earnie out there what role in leadership does he play?

Your best player is Benny Olsen who might feel a little jilted if the #1 draft pick eskadarian takes off and does well.

he might not want to play second, third or fourth fiddle behind your other young superstars.

    convey, quaranta.

If it's a team that can play cohesively, then its a team that can win the East by the all-star game.

and Meet our Super team out here on the West Coast hopefully in the Finals.

I admire your enthusiasm but scoff at your naivetee! Injuries have more to do with who is in the MLS Cup final than just about anything else (although in 2000 our team just wasn't hungry enough to get the job done despite not having a lot of injuries). Imagine how ordinary lesgals would have been had Ruiz gone down.

Try to moderate your expectations so that you'll enjoy the season more. Take it one game at a time, like the pros do. You'll be much happier in the long run.
