so i am told Amass and Chido Obi made social media posts as a message to Amorim who spoke about entitlement and other things regarding them. this on the back of the Mainoo stuff. i have not finalised an opinion on this but i do think Amorim is playing a dangerous game regarding the youth. particularly Mainoo. that's one of the immovable pillars of the club. if you're not going to develop them yourself then loan them. the worst thing is for them not to play at these crucial years. i thought Chido Obi would go on loan but he hasn't. a loan for Mainoo makes little sense but Amorim made his own bed with the "big plans" comment. the youth could be underperforming too in training or whatever but i don't think his handling of this has been optimal. the youth should be challenged to grow and i don't know that the ones in question are. i think Amass is though
I actually fully agree with his comments on that. Video linked here. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSc9eweEhZq/?igsh=OTViMzFwczk2ZHll and Sky article here: https://www.skysports.com/football/...ds-on-academy-stars-harry-amass-and-chido-obi
Club had gone too far in massaging the egos of some of the youngters but context is everything. You need a stable first team with some depth to add youth properly. Mainoo situation is on the owners. Amorim had clearly decided Ugarte & Mainoo were just Cas & Bruno cover this season. As an England international and this is a world-cup season there was always likely to be a clash at some point. Can't loan out Mainoo without CM cover and the owners tried and failed to sign a CM in the summer. That said Amorim not entirely blameless as there have been times the energy / legs have gone in CM and the subs were needed earlier. So Mainoo could and should have got more playing time.
The last part is fair imo. There were definitely times Mainoo’s legs and control in tight areas would have been better than Ugarte’s ability to break play up given his struggles to actually do that and his wayward passing.
I feel like thats been his complaint about Kobe the entire time, at least according ot interviews and sources. Kobe isnt the legs. He's the finesse and Amorim wants legs/power?
since we have nothing else of note going on this season i thought i'd do a loan watch since we're about half way. Højlund doing well for Napoli as the main man, looking the part and scoring. not in a purple patch but he's doing the right things and getting the service. Napoli have faltered in recent weeks but still in a title race. would gladly have him back but based on the noise from Napoli, they already consider him their player and why would he want to come back after being tossed out like that anyway? still such a strange and annoying decision. Rashford started quite well at Barça, faded recently but already won silverware with them and in pole position in the La Liga title race. as predicted, once Raphinha was fit, he'd be the main guy but he still gets minutes. rumours Barça don't want to pay the £28m for him. regardless he can't go back to United. Sancho doing OK? definitely not a starter, Emery is getting decent 20 minute cameos from him, usually from the bench. still, far more than United ever got out of him. still in with a few chances at silverware. Onana no clue, don't watch Turkish football. i heard someone say he's unbeatable in goal now, unsure if it is hyperbole or actually true. dropped for AFCON but he's always had issues with the NT. either way it sounds better than what he was here. all of them near the top of their current leagues and have some kind of shout for silverware. they're all faring better than at United which isn't a surprise at this point. best United can hope for is decent fees for two of them
Only one I feel any confidence in getting some funds back for is Hojlund. Rashford - Barca are skint+cheap and Rashford will strop about not wanting to go anywhere else again. Sancho - Thank god his contract should come to an end and he can toss off to whomever he can con. Onana - Turkey is the only place that can carry his salary and they seldom pay big fees, get whatever we can for him - if even enough to just to cover Lammens would be a dream
I hate to divide against others in the struggle but it is true. There is always so much debate about what was heard, said and intended when it's racial.
Refs at all available levels should be miced up for not just what they say but pitch noise. Take as much anecdotal evidence out of it, and pin the pricks to the wall.
