Donezo. http://www.thecrew.com/news/2013/06/mri-confirms-acl-tear-gláubers-left-knee Well the US Open Cup really screwed us this year. Thanks for nothing...
That's gotta be the season right there correct? Anyone disagree? The only question now seems to be how far down we finish and if they use Glauber/Gaven injuries as a reason to retain... I just don't see how we're good enough to rally and make the playoffs now.
Glauber was a good CB (not great but good). Maybe we can go with a faster more mobile second CB with Marshall, if he comes back. I loved Danny, Julius and Williams in the role in the past. I still worry about depth in the defense now. When are Williams, Marshall, Barson, Viana and . . . . coming back?
That is some shit ass luck. Two Open Cup games, two injuries to starters, two torn ACLs, two players out for the season. Next year I say we abstain.
Bad break for Glauber. I think the team should use Williams in the middle next to Marshall. Viana at LB and Barson at RB.
Burn it down. Let Guille rebuild it. That being said, hopefully this moves Williams inside finally. Williams/Marshall has been our best CB pairing of the past few years.
Just to be clear: this sort of luck... does NOT let Bobby off the hook. We sucked before these injuries.
To be fair, I cross posted it to that thread after I thought about it, and would be happy to delete my post here to keep it on topic.
That sucks. Was not a huge fan of Glauber, but thought he was servicable, and I'm not sure we have a better replacement. I thought Josh looked good a CB last year, but Iwould also will miss his athleticism at RB. But Barson has come on strong, so I could live with a line of Barson, Marshall, Williams, Viana.
So, we demand a more robust lineup fo the USOC. We get a more robust lineup for th USOC. Players get hurt in the USOC . ******** the USOC. Now I understand.
They could just as easily been hurt in an MLS match or training. There's no excuse to send out reserves in a cup competition.
Except Viana is still out with the hammy and apparently, Barson will miss tomorrow with an ear infection. I predict Williams - Gehrig - Marshall - Wahl This will come with a healthy heap of a skullf*cking And THAT will render the rest of us like our beloved manager - brain dead. But that's a whole other topic. ... someone should start a thread for that As for Glauber, this injury doesn't destroy us. Gaven's already did. IF, and it's a BIG IF, that Williams/Marshall pairing in the middle gets rejuvenated from yesteryear's grave, we stand a better chance to see Glauber's injury as minimal impact - outside of what it does to our depth.
The incredible thing to me is that just today we traded away what I would imagine is one of the few assets we had for a 4th round supplemental pick next year. The first guy I thought of was Stephen Keel, I seem to remember we were interested in him in the re-entry draft but FCD got him ahead of us. He has only played 1 minute for FCD, but instead we took the pick from them for the international spot. Just looking over the rosters, maybe we could lure Ryan Miller back to Columbus, he's not playing much for Portland. He could compete with Barson at RB and move Williams inside for the foreseeable future. Leveron up at Vancouver is surprisingly cheap and hasn't played much yet. Schuler or Maund at RSL. Gargan's an experienced old head at San Jose. Bryan Gaul is an interesting option at LB, seems like the rookie Cochrane (who I liked and wanted us to draft) has moved ahead of him on the depth chart at LA. Maybe Olum from SKC, he looked good at times last season but has barely got off the bench this year. Woolard's probably available now after DC brought in Rochat, but he's terrible. Slim pickings.
The next time someone demands that the Crew go all out to win the US Open Cup, they should be castrated with a rusty butter knife.
Oh hell yeah. Top notch Center backs are a freakin dime a dozen. Easier to find than hookers in Las Vegas.
