I was like "wtf?" for a moment when I tried to post but the thread was closed. But here it is... Oh, if we could sign Zaki, that'd be amazing. One of the best shots in the Prem. I honestly don't think he'll fade away. He's been amazing for Egypt and has won the African Cup at least once now with them. I'm not against the signing of Arshavin at all, but if he goes bust, it'll just be "Oh look, Chelsea have ruined another player, again" from all of the idiots. And anyone noticing how Adriano's been left out of, what? 5 games now?, consecutively. Left out of the squad completely.
Remember Arjen Robben and Ruud van Nistelrooy? Also, Kezman had an atrocious European scoring record. Arshavin does not.
But we're not missing another striker. If we're going to go with a 4-3-3/4-3-2-1, what we need is another "flair" player who can create something when the defense is packed. Someone like Cole, Robinho, Robben, etc. Replacing Anelka or Drogba with Zaki isn't going to do much. I'm also not sold on Zaki yet. I'm always suspicious of players who score exceptional goals out of the blue, because they're often scorers of great goals rather than great scorers of goals (the typical description of Dennis Bergkamp). If he can do it over the course of a season or two, maybe. But not yet. As for us ruining another player, who cares? I want what's best for Chelsea, not what's best for our arguments with fans of other clubs. I've been calling for Adriano's signing for years, but I doubt Mourinho sells him to us.
Fair enough. While I'm not entirely sold on Arshavin I'm willing to give him a chance if we were to sign him.
Remember Nemanja Vidic? Although he was known outside of England, most fans thought WTF when he was signed. Six of one, half dozen of another. Things work out for some and not for others.
Most of the signings from the Russian league have actually worked out pretty well. Pavlyuchenko is working out pretty well for us already.
"I really think he could be one of those final cogs in our lineup" You've probably never even seen him in a full Zenit match in their league, yet he somehow completes our team?
9 goals in 11 games, 2 of which were penalties. He's been a top scorer everywhere he's been (even if it was Egypt).
Zaki is a good player, but the question lies in will he produce after this season or the next. Many a player has been heralded at the next great one only to see opposing players make adjustments one season later. It would really depend on the money involved and I just dont see Bruce letting him go for anything reasonable, and quite frankly why should he? Robinho isnt coming this season, which is the best case scenario so moving on, that leaves us the possibility of Arshavin. Could be a good deal and may be worth it for the right price.
Yeah I like Arshavin but Im all for discussing and considering other options. My main problem with the argument being posed to me was that no alternatives to Arshavin were thought of. Id love Aguero, but I dont see that happening, RObinho neither, Ribery? Nope. Lavezzi?
true, but I believe they were working something out with the Egyptian side and Zaki was quoted as saying something along the lines of he would be happy with that well spotted though
as you said (IIRC) that the player we really need is the dynamic wing/flank player who can take people on and create things funny that we now have no money to spend according to the media but had 32 mil to splash on Robinho. Really dont think things have changed that much tbh, but I do think we will be a lot more cautious with the spending and as Scolari as said- he doesnt really need too much to add to this team.
This summer Zenit wanted 20 mill for Arshavin right? Now its January, he's cup tied, and being very very vocal about moving on, must be able to lower the price some right? 10-15? Or is that wishful thinking? Transfer price predictions are not a strength of mine
makes sense I cant remember all the details, but IIRC we allegedly agreed to terms with him via his agent (nice tapping up as usual) and had some type of agreement with Zenit for 12-15 mil or somewhere around that only for Zenit to pull out and start a bidding war with Arsenal and then eventually Spurs. I think they were being crazy and asking around 25 mil for him towards the end. He wants away and do think around 10 mil may just do the trick.
Its the Walter and Fern show... I expect both to waste money Diarra already linked to a move to both clubs Spurs linked with Yakubu, Henry and Defoe (shocker there) City with everyone. Saw their teamsheet today and they really would have to do and spend so much more than Roman did to put that team near contention. I like that team and think Hughes is a great manager in a really bad spot, but to be in the top 4 in this League they drastically need to improve in several areas. They may have the money to do so, but that doesnt always work now does it- as we have seen.
Probably because you're the only ones posting. I thought this was the Chelsea transfer thread anyways.
pah, your just jealous cause you werent invited we were chatting about transfers, what else is there to discuss atm?
