This season ... the Crew had 11 home games combined in May, June, July, and August. I went to 10 of them. 6 wins (!) - 2 ties - 2 defeats in those games. Simply awesome to be at LDC that much and see Winning Nancyball in what should be the prime of Central Ohio weather.
I want Cincy to go down swinging. Force Messi and Co to expend it all to advance. With that, Cincy can suffer another ignominious home defeat in the playoffs and Miami can get bounced at the next phase. Western Conference MLS Cup winner is a must.
Miami is an outlier. Theyre not really an MLS team. Everybody knows it. Even their fans know it. It would be amusing to.see.them lose but it doesnt mean anything. If they win the Cup they'll have a psychological asterisk next to.their name. They'll know it, we'll know it, everybody will know it: A Messi Cup. Easily dismissed and quickly forgotten. But Cincy, that lowlife bunch of contemptible assholes. I dont want them to win anything, ever. Their futility gives me a schadenboner that would exhaust Marilyn Chambers. My hate for them still does not reach DC United levels, but its getting there. I wish them plague and misery.
I just feel bad for Cincy. They wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for Garber and Señor Queso. I would hate for them to be successful, because then my pity fades. DC though, still boils my f#cking blood. Etcheverry was a cheat who drew fouls from 20 yards away. I despise Jaime f#cking Moreno and that little sack of sh!t ABMOD. Even Thor Lee is a puss filled pimple on our timeline.
I remember booing Etcheverry every time he touched the ball. I was like 11 or something. I started and eventually, most of our section was booing. That being said, he was very nice to me and signed my 94 World Cup card of him. DC has been so ineffectual for the past…forever, they’ve dropped off the “rival” list. That and the league really pushed a rivalry between them and Red Bulls. Chicago dropped off for the same reason. They’ve sucked for so long, I hardly think about them and actually would like to see them step up a few notches.
We weren't DC... Or Montreal... We still had a winning season (14 W, 8 L, 12 T). We weren't Atlanta. We still have a nice stadium with real grass. We went down fighting in the playoffs to a team seated higher than us and didn't bow out in spectacular fashion like some other teams. And even though we backed into the playoffs, we were still in the playoffs. Although it always sucks to lose to FCKY, the rivalry is enjoyable compared to other rivalries manufactured or otherwise. I can probably pull a few more out of my *** but I'm old and tired and my cats are staring at me like I have four heads made of tuna loin treats because I'm in front of my computer instead of in the bedroom with Mrs. Grouchy watching trash TV/Youtube while they jockey for position.
I want Cincinnati to beat Miami. Bill's right about how any title Miami would win would have an asterisk by it. But I'd love there to be NO asterisk... because there's no title. Screw those guys. But the good part about this matchup is that we're guaranteed that something bad happens to one of these teams. ZMan's right about how funny it would be to see Cincy get bounced out of the playoffs at home again. If one of these teams has to advance, we might as well enjoy the misery of the one who doesn't, whichever one it turns out to be.
Now that name goes back. He did one good thing...for us...and was gone the next day. It'd be interesting to see peoples' reactions when you asked them who scored the first goal in team history and then told them who it was. Here's an oldie but a goodie: And here's a link to various license plates. It was just a few years later when the McBride photo shoot happened, right? https://web.archive.org/web/20030202161148/http://www.gti.net/mmejido/plates/plates.html
I’m not convinced, he should have never started to begin with and without Abou Ali we are trying to ask him to do things he really has never done. No way they ship him out before summer. I hope your right but Nancy has not been the type to give up hope on what he believes. Frankly with a full offseason and a actual striker I think he will be serviceable. The issue is he was not likely to come here and put up big numbers. The guy averaged 5 goals a year in the run of play. WE OVER PAID AND OVER VALUED A GUY and EXPECTATIONS FOR FANS WERE HIGHER THAN THEY SHOULD OF BEEN. If Rossi is Robin then Gazdag is Alfred. (Only he isn’t old but he is nothing without Batman)
Option 4 sell him for $1 to a team in Hungary like Budapest (whatever his club was called ) And then your off the hook for his salary but he is going to get a opportunity to play and when the summer window hits then the Crew will make a decision if he is still performing subpar. I’m not a hater I’ll be rooting for him to do well. Some of you almost want him to fail it seems. I hate the move but let Nancy cook and put something together in preseason and let’s put away the pitchforks.
It would be a significant ask for a Hungarian club to cover Gazdag's current salary. No reason why anyone there would take that on, or for Gazdag to take a paycut with a different team.
My opinion on Cincy vs Miami is this- The Crew are not playing, therefore I am not interested. It is disloyal to support Cincy in any capacity.
Our former resident grammarian might have had some opinion to this observation had he not concluded us plebes weren’t worth his time.
Never seen that license plate thread before. OMG! How many people remember the Diaz Arce and Gori scandal? Their plates are harsh!
"You're just bias." --Most people these days. I wonder if Briana needs a traction. (If anyone understands that reference, props to you!)
Of course the whole "scandal" fell apart when the lady tried to accuse someone who wasn't even in the country.
Miami vs Cincy is the opposite of a Sophie’s Choice. Unfortunately, one team must advance. We will be watching.* *as long as the game does not conflict with our very busy soccer/futsal schedules.
I’ll enjoy whoever loses but no matter who wins I hope they lose in the ECF. In CFB i root against Michigan in any game especially a playoff gm. I root against every SEC every game they play. So when they play the SEC I don’t root for either team. I just enjoy watching the loser suffer.
