My biggest issue with FCKY, they were complicit to the Garber/Prec*nt plan to remove The Crew, ship us to Austin, and have FCC take over as Ohio's MLS club. Don't you remember that at the exact same time Precourt was announcing that staying in C-Bus was not going to work(business metrics, downtown stadium, no support, etc.), Garber was majorly pumping up FCC as the next new MLS club. FCC gleefully accepted this 'replacing The Crew' role, and were shocked when the Haslam/Edwards deal made STC the ultimate winners. Isn't that enough to hate them forever and place them up there as one of our all-time biggest rivals? The fact that they are in-state and only 100 miles away(50 miles from that silly sign) is also important, but definitely secondary to me.
I don’t think they plan on doing that , what makes you think they will ? I agree we should be shopping for our next DP and once we know we have some we ship Gazdag off for whatever we can get. But I just don’t think the FO thinks they made a mistake. If they double down on Molino , Camacho etc … I really don’t see what you see. Just wishful thinking on your part.
Our ownership are clearly supporters of the Sunk Cost Fallacy. They spent good money on him and won't let him go.
Nancy acknowledged they made a mistake when he didn't start him in any of the playoff matches and trusted him so little that he wasn't subbed on until the 90th minute yesterday. He's not going to start over Habroune or Picard or Chambost, and there is no CCC or Leagues Cup next year requiring regular lineup rotation. He has to be bought out. There's no way around it. The braintrust post-Bez is a comedy of errors but even they aren't stupid enough to let a bench reserve take up a DP spot.
I agree he should be bought out, but I don’t think he will be until at least the summer transfer window. He looked very good (not great) with Abou Ali on the field, and I think the FO and Nancy want to see a bit more of that before getting rid of him. But he should be gone.
It always sucks when your team gets eliminated, so understandably, knives are out. And there's a lot to criticize when it comes to how this team was (de)constructed. But one area I can't find fault with is Nancy's coaching. Cincy had the better seed, the better roster, the homefield edge. Pretty much everything that should happen, happened. I said before the series that the most likely result was that the home team would win all three games, and I was right. Nancy coached our guys to a blowout win in the series at home, and suffered two one-goal losses in the two road games. I can't really quibble too much with that. And I seriously disagree with what was said upthread that Noonan outcoached him. No way. I'm not going to have people condemn the front office all season long for how weak the roster is and how terrible the depth is, only to turn around and act like everything would have been alright if Nancy would have just gone to those terrible depth players a little sooner in game 3. Come on.
Have The Crew ever bought a player out? If they wouldn't buy out Molino or Camacho, I can't see them buying out Gazdag. Those first two guys physically couldn't play, at least Gazdag can. I agree he should be moved, by whatever roster mechanism possible, I just can't see them buying him out, especially if Issa is as inept a negotiator/communicator as some people like to think he is.
Yeah, anyone imagining a buyout of Gazdag is living in fantasyland. When they gave him a new contract - and a bump in salary - before he’d accomplished anything here, his immediate future in Columbus was set. I also think a buyout would be dumb, even if Jimmy were so inclined. Gazdag has bombed here, but he’s no Fanendo Adi. Like Jones and Gressel, he’d had value - and likely start - in lots of other places. I could a trade next season if his production doesn’t pick up dramatically. But a buyout? Not a chance.
Neither Camacho nor Molino were DPs. Rudy did not have any furure years on his deal. Molino's problems were injury related. Plus, I am GLAD we didn't buy him out. Both of those guys helped us lift trophies. Gazdag is a HEALTHY benchwarmer with myltiple years left on his deal. And takes up a DP spot.
Camacho might not have been a DP, but he was the anchor of our defense, it's pretty important, and he was just as bad in last year's playoffs as Gazdag was this year (if not worse).
Molino had his option activated and then was bought out. It says mutually terminated, but you can read between the lines. (The option must have been triggered. No idea why we would have activated it if it was solely the team's choice.) Diaz was waived, so the Rapids took on some portion of his salary. DC united traded their DP Klich to Atlanta for some GAM, but DC had to keep most of his salary on their books, which kept him as a DP. Gazdag is better than Klich, so if we want to offload him, hopefully we can at minimum trade Gazdag for 50k in GAM and the other team takes on most of his salary.
Sounds great, but based on his performance for The Crew, what team would want him as a player, and agree to cover most of his inflated salary???
There are stupid teams out there. Colorado or DC are two teams dumb enough to do it. The former is paying Brendan Aaronson more than what Djordie is getting from TFC.
I don't get this. Gazdag's value was in his ability to goal the ball. An ability which seems to have more or less vanished. I don't see what other value he brings to the Crew or anyone else, and apparently neither does Wilfried Nancy, who quite obviously doesn't think enough of his abilities to use him in an injury riddled lineup facing elimination in the playoffs, in front of a callow youth still feeling his way, a stiff journeyman French guy who basically takes up space, and a midget with a Dorothy Hamill pixie cut who looks like he ought to pull on some colorful silks and hop aboard Speedy Lizzy for the third race at Santa Anita. Unfortunately, the man pulling Issa Tall's strings like some Dollar Store Geppetto is loath to admit that he's blown it and walk away from the investment. He'll never do it and Tall doesn't have nearly the kind of throw weight it takes to look Jimmy in the eye and tell him the naked truth. He likes having a job way too much, and I doubt if he has Barista skills to fall back on. Gazdag is a dead mouse on the team's kitchen floor, and it's hard to see anyone coming along and offering a bucket of warm spit for his services.
Zawadzki pulled out of USMNT camp with an injury. Maybe it was on that one clearance Pure speculation, but with 2 knee injuries, have to wonder if he will be on the shelf to start the very early season. Especially if he needs some form of surgery or long term rehab.
Don't worry...the Crew have shown a great ability of getting injuries and surgery lined up in a timely manner.
I feel bad for Sean, his injuries are always so ill-timed with USMNT windows. When I saw the news he was called up, I actually texted my Crew group that this means he will be injured. He really gives his all on the field for the Crew each time he's out there. Love the guy.
USSF specified that it was due to an injury in the game on saturday. I did see him stretching a lot before the game. Thought he was Rossi at first.
I have very little issues with Nancy as a manager. But he's (seemingly) partially to blame for our roster situation, which bleeds into his job as manager.
