There were a couple of occasions where Tillman should have been selfish.

    Gio should shoot more.

He often passes when he has a good opportunity to have a good shot at goal.

Much to my frustration. He is one of our better finishers as well.

    It’s sound advice.

Where do you play him at?

Frankly, outside of wishing someone would earn the spot of Ream, the starting lineup was perfect. I've been begging for Tillman to be back with Adams. Love seeing it lately. So basically it's McKennie vs Gio. Right now I'd prefer Wes start with Gio coming on later. And I'm a huge gio supporter.

Some people need to get off Gio's ass for something that happened four years ago when he was barely an adult.

His parents were right, he passes up shots to distribute often.

Let's not read too much into it

Give us a break. His parents actions aren't that of his. It's been four years, let it go. The team moved past it four years ago, apparently fans still needing the drama

People have a really lame and immature reality tv like fascination with USMNT “drama” or inter personal dynamics.

and they carry these weird petty grudges associated with that.

Like holy moly take the drama to the car pool line Karen.

Sorry, this is a contradiction. If you admit he was behaving like a spoiled brat, then you admit he was creating tension in a group of hard working professionals. I'm not saying the tension was dramatic, or huge, or anything else. In fact, all I said was "I'm glad there was no lasting tension," which seems like a pretty uncontroversial opinion, actually.

I was not there, but from accounts I have read, there was no tension at all. In a scrimmage against Al-Gharafa SC during the WC training camp, "Reyna displayed an alarming lack of intensity during this training match, described as walking around the field." This was apparently in response to being told he would only play a minor role. Tim Ream talked to him. His attitude changed. He apologized to the team. End of story.

Every pebble in the road, every pea under the mattress does not create tension. "All I said was" is a defensive position, but I am not attacking you, nor should my post create any tension in you. End of story. Have a good day!

It wasn’t just his parents actions but where in my post do suggest I need any drama? I said it’s in the past. All I care about is his play, his fit with the team and my hope that he eventually reaches his potential.

Could we maybe get past this? After 4 years, no one is changing their mind….

As for now, what a shot! Of course, it helps that no defender was anywhere near him, but still a wonderful strike.

It’s 4 years but only one World Cup and Gio has really struggled since. You can’t expect something like that to just disappear from fans minds. The best way to get people to move on is for Reyna to play well and show he’s an excellent teammate. So far so good.

I confess to watching at a yard party and by the time Gio came on - people were pretty distracted. Aside from the goal did he look very good? I’m gonna rewatch.

Not like "oh wow hes adding something else!" but, absolutely belonged IMO. And you score a goal like that........yeah you belong. Its just his particular skillset is valuable against a disciplined opponent that depends on physicality and keeps strong disciplined shape.

    Disagree.

    1. I think other players bring more to the party, especially speed. And are better defensively.
    2. I think his value is coming in the second half against players that have been run to the ground (see above) and now can't use their legs to keep Gio from getting space. He is more likely then to find that special pass or goal.

Lets hope we don't even need Gio to find us a special goal. Just play like we did on Friday and win this thing.

Nah. From what was visible on the broadcast Reyna was 100% in control. He was jawing at Kaku and gave him a bit of a bump on the trek upfield. We've got a few hotheads who lose it on the pitch but Reyna's never been one of them.

Tim Ream is on record multiple times saying that never happened.

we're not talking about "the Reyna's" though, as much as it feeds the narrative. We're talking about one specific Reyna.
