Didn’t watch without distraction, but looked like Reyna is the same player he’s always been. Good on the ball. Good vision. Little urgency or hustle.

Fotmob gave Reyna a 7.0, the highest for a BMG player.

Looked solid to pretty good performance. Looked like good Reyna....it's just 1 game, but promising.

I'd probably say from an individual standpoint I'd say it was a C for Gio. He should absolutely have had an assist, and in transition he did start a few dangerous attacks for Gladbach... but some of the criticisms for Gio were still present... not committed to press, no sprinting, and a few moments he just wasn't part of team defense... though to be fair when Gladbach lost the ball I think he showed fight in the immediate aftermath to get the ball back.

I'd say for someone who really hasn't played much it's more encouraging than discouraging despite my complaints... though I don't think I realized how dire Gladbach are currently as a team.

It’s just good he got on the field at all. Anything else is a bonus. He needs to keep building.

Wow. He looked fine but that’s surprising. Still, they lost 4-0 so it’d be hard to be a striker or defender.

    :) :)

Based on what we've seen so far, relegation should be a concern for Gladbach.

They look dismal. Haven't won a game yet.

Actually, haven't scored a freaking goal yet in their first three Bundesliga games.

They barely scraped by a club named Delmenhorst 3-2 in the Pokal Cup. I lived in Germany, and I don't know Delmenhorst. 5th tier?

Meanwhile, one of the promoted clubs is sitting third in the table without losing a game. Cologne look good. Makes one wonder why Downs left Cologne for Southampton. But anyway.

Its early, but Gladbach is one of those Yank-bearing clubs that we should worry about. Their next three games are against Leverukusen, Frankfurt, and Freiburg. We'll know more after that stretch.

Its early, but it quickly won't be early for their manager if they don't get results in those games.

He's seriously on the hot seat. Actually, he may not make it past the Leverkusen game.
Borussia Mönchengladbach’s next game could decide Gerardo Seoane’s future - Yahoo Sports

Leverkusen versus Gladbach should be an interesting watch for USMNT fans.

A relegation fight could be good for Gio - learn a different type and topic of pressure than Dortmund

Got to hope the new manager values him. Can see that he might not as Dortmund didn't. Sure hope that's not the case as he finally started and looked decent.

matarazzo is an incredibly flexible manager, which is why im such a fan of his. one of few who legitimately manages to his teams strengths. if (he were to take the job and) g'bach arent suited to pressing they wont.

I think the risk is if BMG is suited for pressing but Reyna isn’t. Then he won’t play.

Horrible game for BMG, but congratulations are in order to Gio for making his way back to the pitch for 74 minutes. It almost hasn't seemed possible for a while.

Mine, too, but how are we going to get the ball out of the back? That's been a real issue. And McKennie has real value as a two-way when we press aggressively.

And, finally, is this solid enough to put against a side that you'd expect to see in the knockout stages? My instinct says "no." That instead we'd need to do something like:

    ------------------Balogun
    --------Pulisic----------Tillman
    Jedi---Adams---------McK-------------Dest
    ----SomeReam?--Richards--SomeGuy
    -----------------SomeGuy

When we need a goal, we morph into that 433 that you'd drawn up 2 attacking subs.

To me the value a high-performing Reyna brings in game control is worth the trade off in McKennie’s activity, but I wouldn’t be mad at this.

Thanks. I can understand that. The bigger question mark to me is how we'll progress the ball out of the back without Ream. I think it's pretty clear that a 433 with Ream is defensively a no-go, and even with two deeper-lying CMs, we have problems covering for his lack of quickness in defense, AND we've consistently had difficulty progressing the ball out of any pressure in the back. In theory, you'd think that Johnny as one of the two would take care of that, but that just hasn't happened.

SomeGuy and other SomeGuy are both talentless hacks who wouldn’t get near the bench, much less the first eleven, if it weren’t for the MLS Quota/Badge FC Mentality.

Obviously, the only reasonable options are OtherGuy at LCB and OtherOtherGuy at GK.

Anyone who disagrees is part of the conspiracy.

I'm fine with OtherGuy at lcb, but I think we should use a different guy at gk. OtherOtherGuy isn't good enough with his feet.

Pressing has less to do with speed than it does determination. At this point he ought to be determined to do whatever it takes. And if he’s not then he’s probably irrelevant for club and country.

Richards isn't great in a back 4. He isn't comfortable playing in a back 4. When he was coming back from injury Palace switched from a back 4 to a back 3 when he came off the bench. But he is very good in a back 3.

With two very good attacking fullbacks I don't see why Poch wouldn't continue with a back 3. That would allow for two numbers 10s, which is good news for Gio and not such good news for Weah. Pulisic on one side and Tillman or Reyna on the other. Malik and Gio are playing at the same level, so it's a straight shootout over the next 8 months.
