Jersey alums: Harkes, Meola (Kearny HS) Thistle FC - now Kearny United FC run by James Harkes Ramos (Thistle), Reyna, Berhalter, Ferrari, Agudelo (Saint Benny’s) Bob Bradley, Vermes Timmy Howard A ton of USWNT standouts
Matt Miazga is as Jersey as it gets. Unfortunately for USMNT, so is Giuseppie Rossi. Altidore and Bedoya were born in NJ Others with USMNT roots are Eddie Gaven, Danny Szetella, Richie Williams, Alecko Eskandarian, Manfred Schellscheidt, and the late Glenn Myernick A whole bunch of promising YNT prospects are also from NJ. Peter Stroud, Omir Fernandez, and Brenden Aaronson. It's a small world, my mom went to school with Conor Lade's father. I live on the same street Tobin Heath grew up. And for those of you who are Phish fans (like me), Tobin Heath and Page McConnell grew up in the SAME HOUSE. Page in the 70s and 80s. The Heaths bought the house from the McConnells.
Didn’t Bradley go to school with a bunch of the cast and creators of “the Sopranos”? I think I heard that somewhere.
Portuguese bureaucracy, I'm guessing. Well, hopefully this means we finally start getting some updates on him at the club.
Borussia Dortmund signs a 16-year-old American promise https://en.as.com/en/2019/04/22/football/1555892329_890798.html
Interestingly, US Soccer lists him as "unattached" on their recently released roster for the upcoming CONCACAF U-17 Championship: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...news-u17mnt-conacacaf-u17-championship-roster
Bundesliga.com profile: https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bunde...test-american-sensation-new-york-city-fc-3914
On a long enough timeline, the chance that an American prospect will get written up on the Bundesliga web site rises to 100%.
From a recent article by Michael Lewis: The younger Reyna has been linked to Borussia Dortmund for months but hasn’t signed a contract. He is without a team, a club side, at least. When asked if he knew Reyna’s exact status with Dortmund on whether he signed with the Bundesliga club Wicky replied, “I can tell you how I met him and how I feel having him in camp and how I saw him in training, but it is not my job to announce his actual status with his club situation. I hope you understand that." https://www.frontrowsoccer.com/2019...7-mens-coach-wants-gio-reyna-to-run-the-show/
I'm not sure how much this (German) article adds, but it includes a complimentary quote from Vieira and says Juventus and Man U were among the other top suitors. https://www.ruhrnachrichten.de/bvb/...s-amerikanisches-top-talent-plus-1413196.html
Was at Steve Nash's Foundation charity game yesterday with a bunch of NBA guys. Here's some photos, hoping there's videos soon. https://www.instagram.com/p/By9GK2tHbPr/ If Gio ever becomes a fixture on the national team, I think he'll be the first real celebrity of the USMNT. As a pro athlete's son, he has a lot more exposure to that world and will already be used to the limelight having grown up in it. It's one of the reasons guys like Steph Curry and Donovan Mitchell succeed in the NBA, and it's another reason in a long line to be high on Gio.
Tim Weah is doing fashion shoots in Paris. Son of a Balon d’Or winner - it’s almost inevitable. But the kid does have style as well.
Well, this seems somewhat official confirmation of Gio to BVB. Official English Twitter account. Giovanni Reyna 🇺🇸 (16) and Bradley Fink 🇨🇭 (16) have joined the Borussia Dortmund U19 and U17 squads, respectively! 📝Welcome to the club, lads 🐝 pic.twitter.com/rFasUbhS0i— Borussia Dortmund (@BlackYellow) July 1, 2019
The 19's are the deal at Dortmund.....thats where they place the ballers to get them going. If they are putting him there to start, they think VERY highly of him
That may be true, but that's where has has to play in the upcoming season. He's ineligible for the 17s.
Ahhhh, gotcha....didnt know if he was over the age or not. Either way, he will get all he can handle with that age group....really like this move for him
Reyna will still be on the very young side for the U19 league. He's a November '02, so he's only about six weeks too old for the U17s.
Man, I know this has been said about Gio before, but it's really impressive to see a November kid playing at this level. He's beating a lot of odds to do that.
