Gio is coming on after Brandt made it 4-1 in the 69th minute.

70th min: Reus and Bellingham off. Malan and Reyna on.

Looks like Claudio's call went through.

Oh you’re right, the Reynas acted with honor and are totally blameless in the whole mess Lol.
We all are rooting for Gio, doesn’t mean we can’t point out or joke about the fact his parents were out of order (and not for the first time, if you talk to staff from the U-17 WC).

anyway, moving on, hoping he scores a goal
Now that he is on, although apparently that does not translate to starts in Terzic’s mind.

…and he scores, thanks to my previous post. Howler by the keeper, but we’ll take it.

Edit: to be fair to the keeper, he could not see beyond his defender

say what you want, he is Dortmunds second leading goal scorer on the season and is 1 off the leader in Muokoko...

of course dortmund is very balanced in scoring but thats a pretty good amount (5) considering his actual minutes played.

Yeah definitely. He’s playing well as a joker right now off the bench but until this game he also hasn’t looked as dynamic in other game scenarios.

I think they’re letting him get some rust off and he will get some starts for sure

According to GGG apologists he's not good, fit enough or is a cancer in the locker to be starting, but maybe he can get limited minutes off the bench.

Keeper broke very late, but (to be fair to Gio) it was a nutmeg goal. Crazy- he nutmegged him from 10 yards away- like he was shooting through the wicket. Great shot.

There are definitely some bad takes out there, but I contend there are not as many Gio haters out there as some Twitter accounts would have us believe.
I am no GGG apologist, and I think he should move on, mainly bc I do not believe in having the same coach for 2 consecutive cycles (but also I do take issue with some of his decisions).
I have been watching Gio for a couple years now, and I am rooting for him to be great. His talent is incredible. That does not mean we can’t call him out if he acts unprofessional, and I’ve heard first hand accounts from national team duty since he was 17. That said, he’s young and we all make mistakes. I’m glad he scored today, I just hope he can get fully fit.
And criticism of his parents is not necessarily criticism of Gio, nor a praising of Greggg. Too many people conflate that.

I hope he goes a full 90 soon!

On pure talent IMO he's the best American currently.

If you propagate negative inferences about someone you are indeed a hater.

What? Ok, I guess all of BigSoccer is just haters. We should never post criticisms of players, constructive or otherwise on here I guess. You heard it everyone, nothing but hero worship and praise from here on out.

I root for Gio every match, but also called him out when he was out of turn, just like the other actors in this recent drama. And it was based on inferences, which are based in fact and reason. That does not make one a ‘hater.”

This is what cracks me up about the ultra Gio brigade out there. You can’t just appreciate the player and his talent, you have to worship at his alter and preach that he has never erred.
