He wasn't having his best game but two game-winning goals in a row should put him on the radar for Chelsea, who are trying to buy anyone who scores in top leagues to fix their defensive problems somehow. Excellent timing on that run for the goal.
I think he lost it while he was out injured. maybe to Malen...who I am not really a fan of. I wonder who will be benched once Reus returns? Malen? Adeyami? Reyna? Brandt?
Not that Gruda coulda stopped it, but that some lazy-arse marking for a sub at the 92 minute - and Gio wanted the back post the whole way. Good for him.
Nice composed finish for the goal. Ball had some pace on it, those do get scuffed wide a decent amount of the time. Before the goal the whole attack looked sloppy, including Gio. He was in the midfield, much further back than last game and struggled to make an impact. The young LW who scored a banger last game really showed his age today. Lots of turnovers and missed Guerrero when he was wide open on an overlap in the box.
The ball sticking to his feet a skosh. I'd rather have an Aaronson's "body language" in the Pep sense of the word (as I understand it), for that position. Now, if you look at Gio's goal today, there's more that went into that move than many realize but it has to do with preparation, not reaction. I'd rather see Aaronson as "false 9" (I prefer "tip of the diamond") and Gio 'libero' which lets him prepare his stuff and doesn't put the onus on him to counterpress instantly when the ball turns over. p.s. Not intending to start a usmnt discussion, just comparing positions.
Sorry, only keepers wear different color jerseys in this sport. But it would be cool to be able to sub Gio on and off at will throughout the match.
Mamma's Boy has done well in two matches as a second half sub. If only he had been as motivated during the WC.
