Borussia Dortmund is not a very well-run club, IMO. They do a good job of selling themselves as a good launching pad for guys like Haaland, Bellingham, and Sancho, but they’re a mess apart from that. Lots of coaching turnover, no clear style of play, lots of money on guys who clearly were not going to get them over the hump.

I think they’ve been flailing around for a Klopp replacement since he left. Without much success.

Probably run onto the pitch and face punch a Bayern player in the box just as BVB is about to win the title

To be fair Klopp is one of the two best coaches in the world and it’s very difficult to find someone close.

Tuchel is/was legit as a coach, he just seems like a bit of a turd.

Tuchel is definitely the best coach they’ve had since Klopp.

If I were Dortmund I would have waited to hire Pochettino who is about to be fired by PSG.

Pochettino is nothing special. He took over at Tottenham right as a few key guys were breaking through, but it’s not like he had a major role in developing them. And although he had a tight budget, the few big purchases he made tanked. He’s not awful or anything, but he’s not somebody who will lift a club up a level.

I disagree Pochettino did an incredible job at Tottenham including finishing second in the league and making the Champions League final, things that Tottenham managers immediately preceding and following haven’t come close to accomplishing.

A lot of the guys who did break through during his time at Tottenham were guys that he brought through to the first team. Just as he had done at Southampton before that. And even at Espanyol he was the coach in La Liga who had the best record against Pep’s Barcelona.

The guy is definitely a top tier coach and impossible to argue that he didn’t lift Tottenham up a level. He did the same for Southampton too before that.

Feels like there’s not a lot of other obvious spots if PSG lets him go as expected. It’s that or waiting out an opening at Man City, Liverpool, Man U, Tottenham, Chelsea, or Real Madrid.

Look at the players on the second place Tottenham team. Walker, Vertongen, Eriksen, Dembele, lloris were already there, but just starting to break out. He was there during Kane’s breakout season, but it’s not as if he developed Kane or anything like that. He did bring in Son, Alderweireld and Dele (who had a couple fluky good years early but has since sucked), but basically no quality players in his last few years, and a few big busts.

Poch accomplished more than other managers at Tottenham, but the guys before him didn’t have a Striker like Kane, and the managers after him had to deal with holes that he left in midfield and defense. He’s not a bad coach or anything, but the impression that he overachieved only makes sense in comparison to previous Tottenham managers. Compared to the the rest of the league in that time period, he had plenty of talent.

what he did before Tottenham is about as relevant as what Mourinho did before United. It doesn’t matter much at all now.

No coach develops players in the youth academy. He actually took Kane from the youth academy and played him ahead of Spanish international Roberto Soldado. He consistently promoted homegrown players like Kane and Dele Alli and they turned into stars under him. It’s true some of those young players were there before but they flourished under him and as you noted he brought a ton of homegrown and young guys through. And he did the same thing at Southampton before that. Part of the reason things fell apart at the end was because Tottenham wasn’t spending the money they should have on players and just relying on Pochettino.

And btw both Pep and Klopp praise the guy as an elite manager. PSG is not a good fit for him and it’s a bit of a mess of a situation given you’re required to play a front three that doesn’t play any defense and where they aren’t committed to any particular playing style. But I think Pochettino would do well at Dortmund given the way they bring through young players and he’s the type of coach that would get the most out of a healthy Reyna. It doesn’t seem like they’re going to hire him though.

So he's going from technical director to coach...

Sounds like BVB's management and ownership wants a yes man which isn't necessarily a bad thing when it comes to everybody being on the same page and pulling in the same direction. We'll see how it goes.

He was interim coach before. In my opinion, he was OK.

Yes, but he was also the total polar opposite to Klopp in terms of personality. Klopp is a charismatic man-manager of the kind that you could easily see leading soldiers on the battlefield. Tuchel just doesn't have that. He's a technocratic design engineer who delivers aesthics and efficiency.

You can, with difficulty, replace a Tuchel. A Klopp is . . . hard.

Any more footage on the comeback?
I'm watching Wright and Ferreira and the bloated leaping corpse of Jordan Morris.
I need Gio running and kicking without pain.We all need that.

Apparently Dortmund are signing Haller. Should be a good partner for Gio.

Should be, assuming Gio will actually be able to play. Is there anything new on his recovery (or not)?
