Nyet unless we want a "false nine". He can't play with back to goal, hold guys off and bring others in. He'd be eaten alive.
It's good we have options . I really want to see a game with Dortmund where we don't see haaland In the starting lineup and see how he does in that cm role.
I think he’d be somewhere between a false 9 and a 9. Only problem is that he’d be kicked so much that he might blow a gasket.

A quick look at the U20 midfielders from last year who did well in terms of ball progression. pic.twitter.com/bcZ87pEjAM— Ninad Barbadikar (@NinadB_06) August 20, 2021
That’s a young man who likes to beat guys with the ball rather than the pass. When he feels he has proved himself, he’ll probably pick his head up more and figure out that using the pass makes you more effective when you do decide to take guys on and you’ll get more clean shots off on goal.
Also a young man who played at wing and in very advanced roles, leaving him less progressive passing options.
You’re not wrong. But also how many of those players are center mids vs reyna last season mostly as nominal winger.
I think your point is interesting though since he has a chance to increase his progressive passing this season if he keeps playing a bit deeper. It’s also an incredibly valuable skill to beat a man and then create a numbers advantage to play progressive pass. So it’d more interesting to see that type of data compared with attacking third progressive passing or key passes.

Likely a precaution. I mean... after he indicated that there was a slight problem... on his last pass of the game he picked out a perfect long ball over the top to Haaland who just couldn't put it on target. IMO, there is no unluckier player in the YA pool than Gio WRT assists. He creates so many good chances that don't find the net. Even more so now that he is taking corners. Jude hits the post on one today and Haaland has a free header from 8 years out and hits it high. At any rate... Gio was fantastic today. He oozes class. Hopefully this is just a tweak and he will be back for the next game. He did look a bit uncomfortable on the bench afterwards.
I'll disagree slightly with the above poster. Gio was once again very good on the ball and didn't make any dangerous turnovers. He also did well in the combination that led to the own goal. However, 2-3 times Gio today had time and space in the box or at the top of the box and just never got off a dangerous shot. He needs to be more decisive and pull the trigger when he has the chance. I'm guessing kicker will point this out. Bellingham and Malin (worst offender) were similarly wasteful. This cost Dortmund the game as Freiberg successfully shut down Halland and Reus. This will be an exciting but long season if Dortmund can't shore up the defense. Dahoud and Passlack need some time on the bench.
Thorgan Hazard will only be back in training after the international break. Thomas Meunier is also likely to miss the Hoffenheim game. The injuries suffered by Gio Reyna and Nico Schulz are not expected to be serious [Ruhr Nachrichten] #BVB— BVB Buzz (@BVBBuzz) August 22, 2021
Big grins being worn over at BVB GROUP C: Sporting CP (Portugal), Borussia Dortmund (Germany), Ajax (Netherlands), Besiktas (Turkey). Compared to other groups, this is an excellent draw for them.
