It's hard to understand what the paperwork holdup is in the MLS office. This is a simple, minor trade. Sounds like SN is high on this kid He "can pass" and he's also able to play a number of positions which Nicol likes. This has all the feel of a no-lose pickup for an 8th round pick.
Yes, this is a no lose pick up. It is a smart for the revs to pick him up He is young and very good skill. With is good becouse we may lose some of our midfield to Europe over the next couple of years. At any rate he is not going to be any worse then cassio
Really. Maybe he has to get his work permit modified, but I thought all players were contracted to MLS, so his employer hasn't changed. But maybe there is something that involves INS (heaven help us!).
That makes more sense than anything else I can come up with. I know we all have issues with the paperwork mill at MLS, and for good reason, but this one is a carbon copy of many other trades that have gone quickly---except maybe he can't pass a fitness test. Well I suspect the answer will come out in the wash one of these days. Right now I'm just interested in playable bodies for Saturday.
Don't forget it was Dempsey who injured Gilberto with that horrendous tackle last season. I wonder if there is any bad blood between them.
Given SN's comment: I don't think Flores will see the field tonight. Revs' lineup to show new faces by Kyle McCarthy, MLSnet.com
I think that is all "Old News" and filled with speculation and conjecture. The only real news in the story (and it's not news to us who know him) is this quote from Coach Nicol: "We'll see what happens," said Nicol about his selection quandary. "I'm certainly not going to tell you." FWIW, Gilberto Flores---DID---make the trip to Chi with the team.
He Did... I went to thematch and sat behind the bench, didn't see him, of course I wasn't looking to hard, but still. RRRREV IT UP
And it appears that he DID play in the reserve game http://thefirealarm.matchnight.com/tfadefault.cfm?page=ARTICLE&show=880 "The Revs did get a chance of a free kick in the 82nd minute. Gilberto Flores curling shot forced Mahoney to make a great save to keep the Revs off the scoreboard."
There's an article about the game on mlsnet. Apparently, Flores played the full 90, which bodes pretty well for his fitness. I don't think he had much of a choice, because we only had 2 subs and edozian and vercollone couldn't play the full game, but he played the full 90 nonetheless.
How could the Revs possibly have enough bodies to play the game? Lalas AND Feldman must have played. Along with any other warm body in the vicinity!
Seeing how this is Greg Lalas' second appearance, and the occasional use of front-office staff in reserve games, i'm beginning to think there's a great opportunity for a fantasy camp here.
