Re: Gibbs To Return In January?

Gibbs had to have the microfracture sugrery on his knee.

That often takes up to a year to heal.

    And it did.

Re: Gibbs To Return In January?

there were various internet internet links on it, this is the first one saying the contrary. It was a substantiated source, so i posted it, the wrong in that would be.....? Could it be the print press might not have been right? I myself was slightly suspicious given how long an injury like that takes to recover, but then i also recognized it was cory gibbs. The man who walked under a latter with an unbrella, stepped on a cat which startled him to drop a mirror covered in salt onto the floor prior to his soccer career. I just hope in this downtime he spend his time rubbing a rabbit's foot in one hand 24/7 just to be sure.

Re: Gibbs To Return In January?

Technically, is he actually returning to Charlton? Has he ever been a part of a gameday team? all the best to him. I'm sure he won't rush back, but let's hope the body holds together for a couple years now. He deserves that.

Re: Gibbs To Return In January?

Actually in my experience (I'm not a doctor but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night hahahaha just kidding - but I have experienced breaks, tears, etc) it DOES take longer when you break multiple bones. Each bone will heal at its own rate... sort of. The more your body has to heal, it often takes longer than if there was only one injury. No it won't take 3 times as long, but it won't be the same as if it was only 1 break (your body doesn't have an infinte amount of resources to direct to the healing process). More important than the healing though is the rehab and preparing to actaully play again. Now there are 3 items that need to be 100%. A hard part of rehab is to not injure other parts of the body while trying to "protectt" the rehabbing part. So if 2 of the 3 heal quickly and well, the rehab will still need to be dictated by the 1 that is taking longer or more problematic.

I like the optimism... but I wouldn't expect Gibbs to be back this year.

sadly, it is not bad luck. They just do not have the bodies to be professional soccer players. Even with the skills, many people can't stand the amazing demands put on the body by pro soccer.

Corey Gibbs back in full training for Charlton

Don't mean to jinx the gent, but apparently he is closer to recovering from left foot injury he suffered playing in the reserves for Charlton back in October.

Brief mention at the bottom of the page.

    http://www.charlton-athletic.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=31958&newstype=p

For his sake, I'd just like Corey to get back on the field... its been almost two years since he missed out on WC 2006, and two knee injuries later he still hasn't made his debut for Charlton...

He played two reserve matches back in October but suffered a foot injury early into the second match...
    News on that injury here:

I think I will actually shed a tear the moment (fingers crossed) Corey steps onto the pitch again. Corey has gone through hell and there would be no greater joy than seeing Corey back to full strength manning the backline for Charlton. The US, too but that's a little ambitous at this point. Charlton have stuck by Corey. They have earned a huge amount of respect in my book. Damn, I'm not going to get my hopes too high, it's bitten me twice with Corey but I can't help to feel optimistic. Here's to Corey!!

He certainly would have a starting spot on the USMNT if he had been able to stay healthy. Sad career.

Me too, buddy... although you should want to spell his name correctly! :D

In all seriousness, Cory is one of the nicest, most positive, smile spreading good guys of the sport. No one deserves to finally have a successful comeback more than this man.

And hey, defenders often don't start peaking until 28, so it's not the at all crazy to hope for him back in a US shirt.

Definitely not. With Ramiro showing his ass against Mexico and Pearce out of favor with just about everybody, we're in need of a decent left back. Gibbs is still a pretty young player, and if he can stay healthy, he definitely has it in him to make the trip to South Africa.

Gibbs is a much, much, much better central defender than he is an outside back. I have yet to give up on Pearce at this spot.

I haven't given up on Pearce either, but his coach at Rostok has, and Heath needs minutes if he wants to seal the spot for himself.

Heath Pearce. Know something? I absolutely love the guy's confidence. It's detrimental, no doubt, as it turns to arrogance and he's not nearly as good as he thinks he is. But dammit, ti's sort of refreshing to see a USA player that thinks the world of himself for some reason. :D Now... if only he would start backing it up...

Cory Gibbs back, again? Call me when he plays. I just can't afford to get my hopes up too early.

thank GOD Giffenbone didnt start this thread.

maybe he has a chance to save his overseas and Charlton career after all! Great news he actually recovered on time for a change. Lifted up my day whoever posted this, thanks! :)

When i see that first official Gibsbs: Charlton v X (R) thread, there will be much celebrating throughout the land. Charlton are sure as hell good enough for playoffs and maybe, just maybe with a bit of luck can slip in an automatic spot. Would be awesome to get him back in the YA and the Nats pictures, especially since the next USMNT is a long ways away, could get a decent evaluation of him by then.

    Happy day!!! :D

For me, in 2006 Cory was peaking and was our most talented CB by far.
Welcome back Cory and good luck!
