Gibbs ??? Apparently not with the Nats because of a pending move to another team. http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/latest_soccer_news/401118.html "The camp roster has been pared from 30 to 26, as defender Cory Gibbs remained in Germany with FC St. Pauli with the third division Hamburg club set to transfer him to a club in a higher division during the winter transfer window." Anyone know for sure which team?
Hannover!!!!!!!! hahaha (would be cool...let's build a dorm in Hannover for the American players).. Seriously, please no Regensburg or team with little future of retaining 2nd division, and/or can not ever promote out of 2D...
Well, since St. Pauli has tumbled from the Bundesliga to the Regional Leagues in two seasons, there is a chance than moving to a higher division might mean Bundesliga 2.
Hannover and Hamburg would be great fits as they are both in need of a little more defending. Although, if not mistaken Gibbs has been playing well on the wing for St. Pauli. I just hope Gibbs leaves St. Pauli soon!!!!
I remember reading about this recently (a week or two ago), but I can't for the life of me remember exactly which team it was that had 'expressed interest'...Only that it was a top B2 or bottom B1 team IIRC...
In all seriousness, I think Hannover would be smart to snap him up...helps get Mathis more acclimitized (another Yank around), Gibbs comes cheap, so if he doesn't work out (what has one lost?)...also, Gibbs is young enough, that he is still developing and is good cover for Hannover's middle back situations (if they don't play him).. We shall see...
From the 5 January Hamburg Morgen Post... Rough translation: Same as before the situation with Cory Gibbs and Nascimento is undecided. The US player is currently with his national team and the Brasilian is expected to return in the middle of this week. "I know that both players are a topic at Frankfurt" said Gaertner (Co-Trainer at St. Pauli). "But I don't know of any serious discussions." So it looks like Gibbs' situation is still up in the air.
That rumor that I remembered was about Regensberg renewing interest in him. But the last I heard, that was about a month ago...
Cory Gibbs to be transfered... FINALLY!!! Thank god, Gibbs is set to be transferred to a 'higher level' team in the German ranks....hopefully this means he is going back to the Bundesliga where he can really improve on his game.... I remember Kaiserslautern and Eintracht Frankfurt being interested some time ago...... http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/latest_soccer_news/401118.html in the middle of the story.....
With the kind of season Frankfurt's having, it would be sad to see the kid take another Pauli-esque tumble down the leagues by signing there. For his sake, I hope he gets a more solid 1st BL gig than that.
Frankfurt is a big club, and likely not/never be in BL2 too long...they can spend like many other BL2 (and some BL1 clubs) can't, since their revenue potential much greater......sure Hannover would be better I reckon, but Frankfurt better than almost every other BL2 situation...
Here is another article mentioning the Frankfurt link (in German): http://archiv.mopo.de/archiv/2004/20040105/nachrichten/sport/st_pauli/hmp2004010418100713.html
From the article, nothing will be done until Thursday when the coach shows up, but it sounds like St. Pauli really wants some resolution now, so one way or another we should find out what's up quickly... Frankfurt interested in package deal (the Brazilian Nascimento and Gibbs)....for defence
Seems to me that the deal is almost done. Rumoured transfer fee: 120.000 Euro jonam, http://www.schwatzgelb.com
Is it still Frankfurt? I'd think so, looks like you are just promoting your site (with your link)....?
No, no...i was referring to the earlier postings....Frankfurt is his destination! Sorry that I forgot that. jonam, http://www.schwatzgelb.com
K...thanks for that (Frankfurt is a good situation, IMO...big club...if they do go to D2, they'll be back in D1 in short order)...nice site, btw.
A more recent article. Can someone translate? http://archiv.mopo.de/archiv/2004/20040107/nachrichten/sport/st_pauli/hmp2004010618030957.html
translation http://translate.google.com/transla...chten/sport/st_pauli/hmp2004010618030957.html something like "Actually Cory Gibbs of these days should participate in a training course the US soccer national team. But the centre zone man flew in former times as meant back to Germany - to plan around his future. Yesterday sat it, its advisors and representatives of the FC pc. Pauli in Hamburg together, around an immediate change in bags (Gibbs: "dearest to Frankfurt"). With editorship conclusion of this expenditure the discussions ran still"
Article says Gibbs flew back to Hamburg to get things "settled"...Gibbs 1st choice for transfer is to Frankfurt (although article implies there are other possibilities)...we don't know the politics of the situation (could St. Pauli be "acting" like they want to transfer him, but really want to keep him to avoid relegation? who really knows...does sound like St. Pauli wants some clubs, any club to meet some minimal transfer requirement...so not too high expectations). Sounds like nothing done (or announced), but we'll know shortly....of course, we've been saying that for a while now
Read an article this afternoon saying that Gibbs' agent is working on three offers - Frankfurt, Regensburg and Trier (latter two 2.Bundesliga). However, yesterday evening they came close to agreeing to terms with Frankfurt; as Jonam said, transfer sum is estimated to be 120 K.
Gibbs should do whatever it takes, including paying some of transfer sum or cut in pay to go to Frankfurt...those other 2 clubs are at best middle division BL2, and have very little chance to go to BL1, and if they ever miraculously did, stay for more than a cup of coffee.. Frankfurt one of the giants of German soccer...ok, not so impressive since scandals etc...but a huge potential money base if they put things together...could even be in top 6 again one day (not anytime soon)....a BL2 stay would not be that long....long-term, they are really a BL1 club Hell, if Gibbs was saving any coin over in Germany the past year, he's likely up 20-30% due to the exchange rate (Euros vs. dollars)...better to give some of that back, and get a great/better situation...then play for a minnow who will never really get anywhere (in BL)
Anyone know....is K'Lauten an automatic relegation candidate this year, or something like that? Did they have price to pay for financial troubles or has that been cleared up? If K'Lauten is going down, they take one of the 3 slots or?? thanks in advance..
