hopefully he gets healthy in the first place, I think if he does he will be essential in Charlton's push to go straight back up. I guess the plus in all of this i can see alot of garunteed minutes for him next season. And the fact that Alan Padrew is a promotion shadow ninja warrior. but still....sucks Ill be pulling for sheffield united and West Ham like a maniac tomorrow so at least Specs stays up.
Re: Gibbs playing in CCCL next season Thanks for giving the result of today's match away in your thread title! Mod, would you please change the title to hide the result IF it is at all possible. Thanks.
Re: Gibbs playing in CCCL next season I'd be happy if Gibbs plays anywhere next year- but just stays healthy.
Re: Gibbs playing in CCCL next season Here here. Wished I could have seen what he could do in the Prem this year, but get healthy Cory and help bring Charlton back up.
Re: Gibbs playing in CCCL next season Hredairsson will probably be sold. Cory, if healthy, would fit right in.
Just a question, how many players come off of being constantly injured and break the cycle to get back to their old form? For Gibbs I guess that would be a UEFA Cup team quality player. (at least I think Gibbs was on a F.R. team when they were in the UEFA Cup) Just thinking about guys like JOB who never get back to prior form.
you just have to hope for the best. CCCL play might be a good stepping stone. But IMO this is Gibbs's LAST chance in English ball to make an impression. I hope he can stay healthy and rise to the occasion because what i remember from Cory was easily premiership quality defending.
Correct. McBride's problems were almost exclusive from contact injuries; Gibbs, not so much. I lean towards the poster who compared Gibbs to JOB, unfortunately.
I actually think Charlton dropping down is a good thing for Gibbs. It would be really tough to make a comeback from his injury and fit into the EPL. Instead, he gets to work his way back to fitness in a slightly less competitive environment and hope to help them get back up.
Yeah, I'm honestly not really confident. I'm pulling for him and hope I'm wrong, but those knees are tricky things.
The only problem with that comparison is that JOB at least made upwards of 100 appearances for Ajax--he had his injuries during that period, but it's still a significant figure. Gibbs hasn't really come close to that yet--in fact, the trend is unfortunately in the opposite direction, with fewer and fewer appearances for each club he plays for. In my opinion, we should be content with Cory just stepping on the pitch again, with anything else being gravy.
I think Matrim55 is closer to being correct than Friedel's Accent is about the comparison between JOB and Gibbs. JOB made 78 league appearances in his first five years for Utrecht and Ajax. Gibbs made 96 league appearances in his first four years for St. Pauli, Dallas and Feyenoord. JOB then made 9 appearances in the next four seasons, while Gibbs has made 5 appearanaces in his last three seasons. The main difference is that before his injuries started, Gibbs was pretty healthy, while JOB missed significant time even during his "healthy" period.
Fair enough, I didn't look closely enough at the breakdown by seasons, and I messed up how long JOB was at Ajax. They are closer than I thought. Mmmm...crow.
Its my understanding that Gibbs had micro-fracture surgery to create scar tissue to replace the cartelidge in his knee. A procedure that Jason Kidd and Amare Stoudemire have also had done to their knees. Both appear to be back to their pre-injury form in this years NBA playoffs and NBA basketball with 3 to 4 games a week and hard wooden floors would appear to be a lot harder on knees than soccer played on grass. With respect to JOB, I don't know what his health problems are, I'm not sure anyone does, including his doctors.
