In what was a great football game, came a new compelling argument. Can NFL fans really call Soccer boring due to a lack of scoring? Not anymore in my opinion. I love football, but those who treat soccer rudely are now forced to find a new complaint. Soccer isn't 39 commercials, 4 hours long, and has far less steroid using athletes.
I'll say three things there: 1) The last three minutes of the game were really fun, but half of the people at the watch party I was at literally fell asleep during the 3rd quarter, and woke up just in time to see the ending. 2) Other than the boredom, part of the reason why some of them fell asleep was because of a drinking game they were playing. Every time any of the Fox announcers said the words "you talk about", "I talked to", or "adversity" they had to take a shot of Jose Cuervo. Once again, by the third quarter... 3) 7-3 ( 1 to 1/2 in real points) after three quarters should shut any soccer hater up that doesn't think a 0-0 game with standout defense isn't exciting, because that's all the first three quarters were; defense. Most of the sacks to me were more exciting than the actual scoring.
Here's the thing. I think it was a good game. Sure, it wasn't soccer, and therefore, wasn't as appealing to me, but it was a good game. And this is catchy, 3-2, but let's be careful about using other sports lows as a way of reminding people how great soccer is. Soccer is brilliant, and blows away all sports (in my opinion). But, other sports are fun too, and if people enjoy them, that's good too. But, the more we act like WNBA execs trying to prove that our sport is as fun as their's, the more...well you get it. On another note, the NFL needs to shorten the event of the Super Bowl. It's so long, and I just want to watch it like every other playoff game. It kills me to take 4.5 hours. Please!
actually this doesnt compare to most world cup matches which barely had a score and they hardly have commercials which makes it more boring... thats what unique bout the super bowl even the pre-game. when do you have red carpet for the champions league final. Alist celebraties and mini concerts with fine ass Alicia Keys. ??? super Bowl is more than a Game its a event. no soccer Game Can compare!!!!!
It's funny as much as you are right, you are also wrong. The event is enormous, but the game is so long and arduous to get through. I am glad that Ryan Seacrest, and the guy from the office, have an opinion on sports, but really, Ryan Seacrest and the guy from the office. What do they have to do with the NFL final? The super bowl is enormous, but at the cost of the true football game.
i think club soccer can really learn from the NFL. how are game are presented and why its popular as they are... yes its a Football Game to most, and a circus to others... thats hat appeal to alot of people here.. the world Cup and champions league dont get me wrong will present it as such. But they dont put it on the petistile(sorry i might had miss spelled). Unlike the super Bowl which every football player know thats the peak of the mountain.
I'm not a big NFL fan, but i watched the game anyway. I really enjoyed it, a good advert for the sport i thought. Personally i like all the hype and extravaganza, but i agree it is FAR too long. It kicked off at 11:25 over here and didn't finish til 3:30 in the morning! It may have been low scoring, but i expected that. The Pats are an awesome team that has gone undeafeated all season (they aint gonna be beat easily) and the Giants went in with momentum having gone 10 games unbeaten. It is pointless in the extreme to compare NFL with Soccer, they are two entirely different sports. Comparing NFL with Rugby (Rugby League especially) is more appropiate.
I've followed gridiron for over twenty years now, and soccer for about a year and a half. I have a lot of personal history and a lot of my heart and soul (relatively speaking; frankly, it's all still just sports) put into gridiron, and I will always love it. Last night's GAME was everything that gridiron is supposed to be; it was awesome, even though my team was not in it. That said, barring overtime there is no good reason for any American football game to take more than maybe 2 hours and forty minutes. The commercial breaks after EVERY kick have to be the most annoying, gratuitous things ever. While I love my gridiron teams, I really find, as a soccer fan, that my interest in watching gridiron as a neutral has been drastically reduced in the last 18 months.
yeah, because comparing one of the lowest scoring superbowls really makes sense. this is the most contrived, cherry-picked bit of insecure nonsense i've seen on bigsoccer.
So you're saying that ''stupid beer commercials'' make the game more exciting.Looks like you've found the perfect game, you deserve the NFL and the NFL deserves you.
But the most exciting thing is that the drummer in Tom Petty's band on the half time show was wearing a Brighton & Hove Albion hat.
Actually 3-2 is so called a Pele score in soccer = most exiting and interesting score in a soccer match. Total score = 5. Average score in soccer matches around the world wide is about 2.5. I think FIFA somehow needs to increase the average by 1 goal and make the average around 3.5.
For me, this was the best Super-Bowl I have ever seen. This is also the first one outside of America that I have watched. What made the game exciting for me was the fact that I didn't have commercial breaks after every play. Here in Germany, when people in America are having commercials, the German tv just shows the crowd or the teams huddling up. It has the feeling that the game is more constant flowing and less sparatic. This feeling is also what I enjoy about soccer so much. However, today I am really tired because the game finished at 4:30 in the morning...
Continue from my post, but you don't want to make the average 5, because if you do, you'll produce so many boring high score games.. like 6:2, 7:3...
It was as good a Super Bowl as I can ever remember watching. But to the dude who said commercials are exciting, you sir are smoking crack...
CL and World Cup are already too much of a circus without making it even more into NFL type parade of celebrities and posers instead of event for fans.
MLS should have done a 30 second spot talking about REAL football or at least promoting Major League Soccer in some way.
Field goals shouldn't even count as a goal ... It's a an award for failing to score a TD. Of course I know field goals make things interesting in a tactical and strategic sense, but they shouldn't count as equal to a TD when converted into a soccer score ... Last night was technically 2-2 ...
