Wow. That’s big. Busio imo has been a legit MLS best XI so far this year. I’d assume psv is the Dutch team. That would be a good move. Or a solid mid table serie a team.

Is that true? I thought EPB left pretty young and never played much for them anyway. I also vaguely recall that SKC accepted a bid from Fulham for Besler, but that Besler was the one who turned down the offer and decided to stay.

EPB came from their academy, signed a contract and ended up leaving for free, however much blame someone wants to put on the various parties is up to them I suppose.

SKC made Zusi and Besler DP’s dissuading them from moving to Europe. A move up to then not really seen in MLS.

Busio has had bids recieved and hasn’t been sold. SKC doesn’t have any track record at all selling Americans on after multiple opportunities.

I wouldn't say offering a player more money is dissuading them from moving to Europe, if that player doesn't want to move. (Again, my understanding is that SKC accepted a bid for Besler, and he was the one who turned the offer down.)

I also don't think the fact that SKC have received bids for Busio necessarily implies they're unwilling to sell him, without knowing more about the offers or Busio's preferences.

There are plenty of examples within MLS of clubs blocking transfers abroad against players' wishes, and players making their feelings about that known (through their agents, the media, or their own actions). I was just curious if you had heard of such examples in SKC's case.

to be fair, SKC sent EPB on loan to Porto with a reasonable option to buy - which was declined. So it’s not as if he was completely blocked from getting sold

I clicked on your second link and noticed a juicier rumor in there:

there are several Italian clubs that are interested in him, including Sassuolo, which could carry out an operation in concert with Juventus.

SkySport Italia is also reporting interest from Sassuolo (but no offer yet).

    https://sport.sky.it/calciomercato/2021/06/21/calciomercato-news-oggi-21-giugno

The item is brief and doesn't bring up the Juventus connection mentioned earlier.

They're citing to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio (who contributes to Sky Sport, so I'm guessing he's the same source for Sky).

But, it's a little confusing because Di Marzio doesn't mention the €4-5M figure anywhere in his report (here), so I'm not sure where they're getting that figure from, or if it's from their own independent reporting.

(BTW, Busio is currently valued at €4 million on Transfermarkt.)

That's a garbage offer. SKC are asking for a little more than that, w/ add ons, and sell on; which is frankly more than reasonable.

They could make a bigger request at this point. This is considerably less than FCD got for Reynolds, Busio has been better, and plays a more premium position.

Sassuolo are a smaller club than you'd expect to make the proper bid & put Busio in position to succeed as more of a possession-based player. You'd think they'd be looking for a top team in a secondary league w/ a seller's rep or if they're myopically locked in on Italy cuz of his ancestry, at least get into Lazio's class.

yeah agreed....based on what recent mlsers have gone for they could ask for even more than 5m at this point....plus the italian passport.....i think it'll happen eventually.

Given that Sassuolo have not made an offer yet, and that the bigger outlets reporting on this have not specified a figure yet, I'm not buying that €4-5M number at all. It looks suspiciously like a number just pulled off Transfermarkt to me.

They bought locatelli for ~15M right? Going to sell him for healthy profit and reinvest that into Busio :).

eh they still bungled it....losing him on a free transfer was pretty weak. EPB's career hasnt turned out as well as it couldve and there were many paths it couldve taken. He was basically the best player in his U20 tourney that year.

What are Peter Vermes' success stories in terms of player development beyond MLS? Does he have any? Besler? even he never got out of SKC. zusi never got out of SKC, either.

held on to him, held on to EPB and now has rejected offers for Busio.....

Hes been there a long time (since 2009) without much of anything happening.

Vermes has zero track record in terms of player development to europe, imo. He clearly doesnt prioritize it. Hopefully he has learned from it and will get busio into the right situation asap.

Vermes has zero track record of player development to USMNT???

    graham zusi has 55 caps
    Matt besler has 47

both played roles in WCQ and World Cup.

    Pretty good development imo.

yeah I edited my post...besler was good......but i think both zusi and besler couldve been better if they had left SKC for better pastures.

Zusi especially never really became an asset for USMNT, imo.....had a lot of potential that was never realized.

well its yanks abroad so I assume thats the focus.

I just hope that this doesnt somehow become another EPB type-situation when it could turn out better than that. I'm unconvinced that Vermes' has cared much about helping USMNTers get to the next level in their careers...hope I am wrong or that he has changed.

To Vermes' credit, he also helped resurrect Feilhaber's career as well....he's done a good job overall but below average in terms of helping US players get to the next level, imo.

Lots of guys under Vermes should've gotten more looks too, like Melia, Opara...others I can't think of off the top of my head. SKC for a time -- around the opening of their stadium -- was the best run, most successful club in MLS. It seems like others have passed them, but they've certainly built quite a legacy. Hoping Busio can keep his trajectory. He's reached a higher level but he'll need to get to a higher one still if he wants to stick it out in Europe at a meaningful level.
