He's really the YA Flavor of the Month right now. Hopefully this doesn't derail his nice run of performances.

What a funky position he's playing, standing as the center of a back 3 at times when defending and getting the ball back, shifting at times to CM or even AM, but generally staying very deep and constantly running into space. He's kinda playing like a better version of Michael Bradley's early Euro career.

He's stepped in well on defense and has a couple steals and blocks. This Venice squad has some definite ability and playing in that stadium, in front of those fans, in those kits, must be something.

Fun fact: Salernitana trotting out a 38 year old Franck Ribery (cool!), who's exactly twice the age of Busio (wow!). They've come up against each other a few times, Busio getting a veteran's yellow on a Ribery fast break shirt tug (kid -- he's not gonna get very far very fast near the half line -- is he?) and apparently Salernitana spanked Venice twice last year in Serie B but now find themselves down at home against those same opponents.

Shows the divergence of the management too -- one that has stylishly overhauled its image and roster and is looking forward and the other riding a wing and a prayer with a very late stage Franck Ribery...even the hometown boy coach looks good, though he needs to ditch the barnet.

It’s still difficult to tell where his best position is. 20 years ago it feels like he might have developed into a traditional #10, but he also sees the game better at the 6.

From what I’ve seen at SKC, his prior games with Venezia and the first half of today’s game is he’s not as aggressive as he could be for a 6, especially compared to someone like Adams or when WM has played at the 6.

I think the #6 can work for him in Seria A because of the style of play in that league. I’m unsure if it could work at the NT if we thought of Busio as the backup #6 to Adams at some point.

Venezia do look like a stronger side now. They’re creating a lot of chances and half chances and playing a lot in the other team’s 3rd of the field, but are also exposed in transition.

there are so many bad Ribbery jokes to be had in these two posts and I'm very disappointed in myself that I am resisting making any of them...

I couldn't watch today. I see they drew. Anyone with a brief assessment of Gianluca's contribution?

Only watched first half. Venezia didn't have the ball at all. Busio seemed fine in their defensive shape for the most part.

He'll probably be kicking himself that he didn't get his shot on frame after a deflected corner. Not a gimmie given the traffic in between him and the goal but I'm guessing he wished he did better there.

Genoa, currently level on points with Venezia and without a win since the first match day, fired its manager today, with Andriy Shevchenko apparently lined up to replace him. This relegation battle gets more interesting by the day.

OK, I googled it. 4 sons with American wife, from 17 to 7 years old. All have American names.

    Damn, nice work.

While we are at it, can we not offer Ronaldo (the baby machine) and his lovely wife a huge 5 year contract and a fancy Beverly Hills mansion, complete with movie star role, to procreate on the US tax payer's dime? There is still time to hide this contract within Biden's Build Better Back legislation. It'll more than pay for itself when US wins the 2054 World Cup.

Ronaldo is so good at hitting the target apparently.

    His oldest kid is American.

He does have a bit of a legal issue with his admitted rape though, so I'm not sure he wants to come here.

Of course the woman has my sympathies, no question. But to be fair to Cristiano, he settled a case. That does not always mean guilt, and pretty sure he never admitted to the crime.

For all intents and purposes, it will forever remain 'she said, he said'. So we will never know for certain what happened in that room that night, and leading up to said incident.

Legally speaking, I think the court has cleared him but of course lawyers can always try additional attempts to re-litigate, however remote the odds.

Courts don’t “clear” criminal defendants but they did toss out the charges based on evidentiary rules barring stolen evidence, as I recall.

Venezia 3-2 over Roma. Busio went 90, Tessman came in once they got the third, ~ 74' or so. Busio looked pretty good, great corners. Tessman didn't look out of place, drew some fouls.
