It’s good to hear there’s interest abroad, but I’m hoping he doesn’t go to either club. He hasn’t had the impact in MLS yet that Davies, and only recently Davies has broken through as a starter at Bayern. I’d prefer he stays with SKC another year as a consistent starter and then move to a mid-low table Seria A team.
Sporting KC’s estimate is way too high. I could be wrong but I don’t see them coming to an agreement if there’s that much of a gap between their estimates.
They shouldn't be in a hurry to come to an agreement with Fiorentina when bigger clubs are sniffing around. Busio ended the season as a starter at age 16. His price will go up by August.
IDK. NYCFC just sold Scally for a clean million. He hasn't played once for them. Busio is just maybe a half year older and has 29 appearances in MLS. The market for the American youth prospect is getting more expensive. People pay attention when three prospects walk into the starting lineup on Champions League teams (McKennie, Adams, Pulisic). I would imagine seven million with some add ons gets it done for him, barring a substantial increase/decrease in form.
NYCFC sold Scally for $2M with escalators to $7M. FC Dallas sold Richards for $1M (I think) but with a 40% sell on fee, I've heard. If SKC (or other teams) are trying to get upside value in cash form now, I don't think there's going to be a lot of deals for younger players. However, sharing some of the upside/downside risk with the receiving team can make these easier. A couple million now with sell on value, either in escalators like NYCFC or in an actual sell on fee like FC Dallas, makes a ton of sense for both sides. That way both sides take on some risk rather than trying to come to a number with risk and upside built in. In general, I think MLS teams should pull the trigger way more often than they do just purely in self-interest. I like Busio probably more than most here, but you've still got to allow for the chance at this time next year, he may have had a great year and upped his value ... but it's just as likely (maybe more) that he hasn't progressed substantially, couldn't beat out a vet, etc., and has suddenly lost a ton of value. I think he's a better athlete than most give credit, but he's not a freakish Alphonso Davies-like athlete, so I'm not sure he has the monster upside that would engender a really big fee. On the flip, though, a million or two with no upside doesn't have a ton of value period to an MLS team for a player who will get time. So there has to be something in the middle.
I like Busio much better than Scally and objectively he accomplished much more so if Scally is $2M to $7M then there is nothing wrong with Busio $5M to $10M. Especially as it seems that he is projected as a starter and August prices will be higher than January.
Fiorentina made the offer this winter. #MLS #SportingKC https://t.co/VIqFH8Rg1f— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) July 17, 2020 h/t @Tactical Hipster @dark knight @bungadiri @TheFalseNine European interest in Gianluca Busio
There is an ESPN report today identifying him as one of three MLS players "under consideration" at Barcelona. @bungadiri @TheFalseNine European interest in Gianluca Busio
Confirmation of Barcelona's interest...??? "My dream is to play for Barcelona. Barça has not contacted me personally, but they may have contacted my agent. I understand there is interest and it would be very difficult for me to decline if it were anything specific." [Quim Miro] https://t.co/37xlhtD3Vg— Daniel (@DanielSmith1022) November 24, 2020
Players who aren't dominant at least shouldn't be going directly from MLS to big clubs. They won't gain trust, even if they may be good enough to fit in. If his dream is to go to Barcelona, find out the clubs they buy from to play guys (Ajax, upper Portugal, upper mid Spain) & go so if you can be there in-between. Provided he does that, I'm not averse to him moving this winter. Otherwise the big club he goes to is in all likelihood going to sit him for a while & then loan him to someone like that or worse, that also aren't invested in his future. In the interim he could at least prove he's at that level too. Otherwise it'd be tough to ladder back up. He also shouldn't defer to whatever SKC wants, because they may be compelled to take the biggest offer. Aaronson & his agent took the initiative to facilitate the sale to Salzburg instead of elsewhere.
You have to think the "interest" was more in the nature of "We like X, Y and Z qualities of yours, we'll be monitoring your progression, let's keep in touch" rather than "contract is on its way." Hopefully it's got Gianluca thinking more about next steps and to your point @thedukeofsoccer, evaluating any options in the context of what gets him closer to his goal.
El Barça está muy atento a Gianluca Busio, centrocampista de 18 años del Sporting Kansas City.FCB maneja muy buenos informes del 🇺🇸 y ha tenido contactos informales con las 2 partes. Great opportunity for us to prove or disprove once and for all whether magic euro pixie dust makes you good at soccer.
I’ve been told that both Liverpool and Juventus have informally reached out to #SportingKC in recent days regarding Gianluca Busio.— Shaun Goodwin (@ShaunGoodwinID) December 22, 2020 CM/DM with over 70 Ligue 1 apps signs for SKC. Possibly just a matter of time before Busio goes to Europe; same with Bello at Atlanta with their two new left backs. https://t.co/D14NuACXlI— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) December 22, 2020
I think what he’s saying is what others here have been thinking is that he’s had the potential to be really good, but hasn’t lived up to the hype.
