    Hey,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to get more length on my goal kicks. I used to beable to hit it past the half way, but this season I just can't do it. I'm hitting the line every time. I have the height I just don't have the distance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou all for your time and thoughts.

Have you had any injury or taken a long time off? That could effect the strength of your legs. If you are getting them high enough with not enough distance you might be getting under the ball to much.

Well last season was when I was doing the long ones, this season nothing. I slacked off during the off season.

I heard its more your leg speed but another said follow through is more important, I'm just wondering which one :).

    Thankyou for your time.

This is probably the reason for your goal kicks getting less distance. Goal kicks are like any other skill: you have to use it or you lose it. You need to practise them a lot, in the season and off season.

A coach taught me this strange technique, but it seems to work. Before I start my run up to kick the ball, I do about 3 or 4 little hops. I don't go anywhere when I do the hops.

The reason I think this works for me is that it puts a little more spring in my run up to the ball. Try it out, and tell me if it works

Hmm hop in place? Umm ok yea sure I'm willing to try/ do anything. Yesterday with a pulled muscle in each leg my fatherest hit mid way. It was raining and the ball was heavy as anything and my boots were so soaked and covered with grass it wasn't even funny. O well when I kicked it I fell and like slide to the 18 hehe.

    Thanks again!!!

WATCH THE BALL WHEN YOU HIT IT
My goal kicks were shiet and then i started to really focus on the ball

If the ball is not spinning top to bottom (vertical axis) you will lose distance.

read some of the responses up in "more HEIGHTH in my goal kicks" by Dudek's Apprentice. Some tips in there should help.

I usually strike down on the ball thus making my kicks rise with backspin.

I have seen different approaches to kicking goal kicks from the various levels of skill all the way up to the pros, myself trying to emulate different keepers styles..

Do most people run onto the ball from a slight angle? or pretty much straight on?

And 2nd, As you hit it, where is your plant foot? slightly behind the ball or even with it?

I have tried different techniques as a goalkeeper, but cant consistantly nail down a solid pattern. My conservative (low chance of badly shanking the ball) falls about 5 yards short of halfield, whereas my aggressive attempts either make it past halffield, or end up as a pathetic line drive 2 feet off the ground.. I am 5' 10" and 180 lbs so I know size isnt an issue since their are keeeprs my size kicking goalkicks much further..

Ironically, I can hit the ball farthest when I am screwing around in shooting practice and shanking shots over the crossbar into oblivion... If I could hit these as goalkicks I'd be all set..
