Thing is, in the two games he played for the NT, Joe looked good. He may have sacrificed himself for the NT, actually, considering it was after 22 minutes looking good in his second and last game that he busted his knee.

Yup also important context. He was electric and played well in his first start for the USMNT against a decent Czech Republic team a week before the injury.

Now that Joe is home, we get to see him week in and week out. We can start to draw conclusions about his career. I am excited for him. He seems to be injury free. He has a second lifeline.I hope luck is on his side and comes out on the other side so we can shut the door on the whole injury wrecked his career notion.

These threads make me feel really old. Always kind of sad when they come to a close. Really hope Mr. Gyau gets a fair shot in Cincy, we’ll be watching and rooting for him!!!

But I was told that American players over 25 don't move from MLS to Europe?

Let alone you have Gyau, Stanko, Mueller, Turner, and Ramirez all going to Europe the past 2 windows.

I still think he's good enough for MLS. Honestly bummer, but glad he found somewhere.

I was surprised FCC let him go. Joe is a good and very capable MLS player. Here's to succeeding in Sweden!

Side note.... his baby sister, Mia, recently signed with NWSL newcomer San Diego Wave. She has quite the injury history too -- 2 ACL's and 2 Achilles while at Duke. When healthy Mia is pretty damn good.

I don't know if a free transfer to a newly promoted Swedish team is the devastating counter-example you are looking for. Unless you are joking? It's hard to tell sometimes.

I didn't know Kentucky actually gave degrees, thought it was more of one year thing. Is that a recent change?

???? When did he ever show that? He was a reason Cincy was crazy bad.

I swear people just make up things because he is a formewr youth Yank who had waaaayyyyyyyy to much hype., and folks can’t give up the fantasy.

Hell, as he showed zero ability to impact a game, like he has his entire career, while be given ample opportunity, outside of a mid table 3 side in Germany, folks still wax nostalgic. He got garbage minutes at Dortmund once! Did you see that first half against the Czech Republic several years ago! He was able to hold onto the ball and dribble. There was no connection with teammates, No crosses, shots, or end product…..ever. That has been his entire career, outside of mid level D3.

Yet some here (not you), the genius crew, touted him for the Nats while in D3. The same bunch said he would easily make an impact in crappy MLS.

This isn’t a small sample size. This is a decade worth. He was the same non productive flashy looking player from youth on up.

I’m not really trying to be critical or bash Joe but what the hell are people actually watching? I mean, this is years and years worth. This isn’t some small sample size hot take.

Yes, he had a bad injury, but he was the same clueless player before it as he is after. Good look to him but good MLS player? Nope. There is a reason he was released and probably had little to no interest in MLS. It’s a bout as straight forward as it gets TBH.

I don't know who pissed in you Cherrios but I don't think Gyau deserved a roasting quite like that. ;) The reason FCC is / was so is because they can't keep a coach and are run by complete morons. I watched Joe a handful of times at FCC and twice in person while visiting family in Northern KY. He was average. Nothing more. Nothing less. That's what I mean by "capable". Maybe that's my polite way of saying average. Joe was far from FCC's issues. He is a depth guy with most MLS teams despite starting 43 of 50 games at FCC. Cincy hasn't really improved that much in the offseason. That's why I surprised they let him go. I know you are not pointing a finger at me but I and many others - even in his D3 Germany days - thought meh.... decent player but very limited. That was even before injuries. I'm not in disagreement about the over-hype of players. It happens here and everywhere. Just take everything will a grain of salt. That way you don't feel obligated to bust someone's chops unnecessarily when they mention a player is a "capable" MLS guy. :D

Jim Harrick was pretty shady too, but at least I got to see my Bruins win a national title my freshman year. (And he's directly responsible for Monty's Steakhouse closing in Westwood!)

Four starts playing LW. Four losses, no goals, no assists, and two yellows, but he's not injured himself again. That's a good thing.
