I was suprised that he was called instead of Green. Green is younger and has more starts, appearances, and avg the same amount of dribbles and key passes
Green and Weah had good chemistry when they played together. With Weah stuck to the U20, I guess there wasn't much point for Green, who otherwise has looked lack-luster for the NT of late.
I'm happy Gyau is getting another shot!!! If nothing else this is "doing a solid" to a player who was seriously injured while with the USMNT. (kinda ironic that this next match in Cincy is apparently supposed to be sod over turf - just like the match that Gyau got injured in)
so what's the point of announcing 40 if 17 won't go? I think it's incredibly easy to tell all the guys who aren't going.
Since there's a combined u23 camp before the gold cup, I think all 40 go to either the pre-camp or the actual roster....otherwise, I agree. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...s-combined-preparation-camp-u-23s-senior-team "US Soccer announced a combined preparation camp with players from the senior and U-23 men’s national teams from May 26-June 2 in Annapolis, Maryland. The U-23 internationals will have their own training camp from June 10-16 in Salt Lake City. The USMNT Gold Cup camp will feature senior MLS players following the weekend of June 1. The combined camp will feature U-23 eligible players and others until June 2. 11 of the players participating in the week-long camp were named to Gregg Berhalter's 40-man provisional Gold Cup roster on Monday." Basically it looks like all 40 will at least get to be in a camp with the USMNT even if they don't make the Gold Cup 23 - which, by the way, I think is a great move by GB.
Green has not played wing in a while. He's been playing as CAM/SS, the "Messi role." Not exactly successfully IMO.
https://sbisoccer.com/2019/06/joe-gyau-weighing-offers-from-europe-mls Earning another cap was an achievement for the 26-year-old winger, but, after having not been selected for the final U.S. roster that will compete in the Concacaf Gold Cup, Gyau’s sights are now firmly focused on his immediate future at the club level. Primarily, resolving what the next step is, be it still in Europe or in MLS. “Both. Both are definitely an option,” said Gyau, whose MSV Duisburg side was relegated from the 2. Bundesliga this season. “I have a few options in Germany but I’m also looking at other options in the MLS. I’ve been away for a long time so, yeah, definitely."
I think he needs to leave Germany. Has been there since 2009, a full decade and hasn't amounted to much. Turns 27 years old early next season and his career is pretty empty. Go somewhere new and build a career in what's left of his pro career.
Not a starter or bench player in a friendly today vs Wanheim. His name is still listed on the roster but not checked off. Unsere Start1️⃣1️⃣ zum ersten Test bei Wanheim1900. Tobias Trautner von @SF_Lotte und Leroy Mickels von @ssvgvelbert sind heute als Gastspieler dabei. #MSV #Gemeinsam1902 pic.twitter.com/rudDIaP70a— MSV Duisburg (@MSVDuisburg) June 16, 2019
From the club: Joe @36finest #Gyau kehrt zumindest aktuell (noch) nicht zu den #Zebras zurück, sondern prüft in seiner Heimat anderweitige Optionen. #MSV-Sportdirektor Ivo Grlic: „Wir sind jetzt mit ihm im direkten Austausch und Verhandlungen.“ #Gemeinsam1902 pic.twitter.com/xfRoECtcYL— MSV Duisburg (@MSVDuisburg) June 21, 2019 Joe @36finest #Gyau is not (yet) returning to the, #Zebras but is considering other options in his home country. #MSV-Sports Director Ivo Grlic: "We are now in direct exchange and negotiation with him." #Gemeinsam1902 BTW, that pic seems to be casting a little shade toward Joe.
