Whatever you guys say, base for Fire team has always been european players-Eastern Europeans.
Starting with Great 1998 year Kosecki, Podbrozny, Kubik,
    Nowak obviously.
Then Hristo -who despite many contusions gave a lot to this team.

I worry what is going to happen to fire after Nowak and Stoiczkov retires. All others are gone. Who is going to carry the game?Who will make the passes? not Marsch or Kovalenko

No matter what you think about Podbrozny and Kosecki when they were here we had Fire 's best years-and best quality of game I think.

GET EASTERN EUROPEANS HERE -BECAUSE THEY WILL BRING QUALITY PLAY AND MORE FANS TO THE STADIUM.KEEP HRISTO AS A PART OF COACHING STAFF(because he will tell players truth straight in the face, no crap like positive feedback, when they do not deserve it)

Normally I'd go after someone for such an attack, but I like Warren Zevon.

Speaking of Warren, Bob Dylan is playing several of his tunes on his current tour (Accidentally Like A Martyr, Boom Boom Mancini, Mutineer and possibly others.)

Sulek i agree, but let him get in good condition and play!!!
Chicago has a great history of eastern europeans. And the have held steadfast. The fall off has been the americans who thought they were better then they were.
    Cheers

I thought the title of this thread refered to a sale. It's a good point that the Fire has always had Eastern European roots. The Campos fiasco sure highlighted what a bad move it is to deviate from the Old World plan. But isn't Ukraine an Eastern European country? Why dis Dema--especially when he's on the verge of his best year ever!

Remember how when the Sting won the Soccer Bowl in 1981 they has a strong West German contingent? Deiter Ferner, Arno Steffenhagen, Ingo Peter and that freekick guy who wore #12 were the core of that team. Even a long haired Argentinian couldn't mess up that organization.

Years later Graniza tried to date rape my girlfriend. I was so proud...

Jesus, let's just get some good players who work hard and with our system, are well-conditioned and play for a moderate salary.

Ethnic pandering does squat in the long run. I would hope all the Polska who did not abandon us after Jerzy and Roman departed wouldn't do so after Nowak passes through the exit. I trust that is the case.

That said, if we could sign up a nice young Polish Lubos II-esque sweeper, I'd be all for it.

    Proficience, not passport.

I am not the only one!

I thought so, too. I started wondering what kind of European to order!

Now that Der Sting has been mentioned . . . I have been wondering if any of the Old Sting fans can help me. I seem to recall a lot more TV/news coverage of The Sting than we get with the Fire. Am I imagining that?

Depends what year you are taking about. In 81 the Sting got good coverage but after that no.

Even if he's willing to play for, say, 50k a season, I nominate you as the one to hold him down in his airplane seat when we go on roadtrips.

What about Laurent Blanc at Manchester United. He would add a little experience at the back. In terms of forwards, there is Teddy Sheringham at Spurs who would do a job and Paul Merson (portsmouth) has made a statement in an English paper stating he wants to finish his career in USA. This guy would be a great signing for the Chicago Fire......

    Screw these broken down Euros.

Scout Mexico for the best young talent we can afford. Did any one learn anything from LA this year. LA fans started showing up JUST for Ruiz. If the Gals add a Korean international they could top 22K in attendance next year.

I think sometimes people on these boards discount the first generation ethnic communities as far as not really caring/knowing whats going on in MLS. That couldn't be further from the truth, but members of these communities want to go see people from their country.
What was the #1 question Mr. Wilt got before the Fire moved to Naperville? "When are the Fire getting a Mexican player?"

I'm rooting for a young Mexican discovery player and a Sr. International from Latin America!

    Viva el FUEGO!!

It's always hard to get even young mexican players as they are scouted and signed by mexican teams who can afford to spend more but like ruiz there is talent in other latin american countries that are affordable.

OK, I'll do it. Explain to me why. Is he afraid of flying? I'm a good bartender, I can take of that.

3 years ago, when we got Carlos Bocanegra.

Oh, a native mexican? What about Jorge Campos?

You mean now? Why should we pander? So he got asked it a lot, that doesn't mean we should run out and get one. We're putting together a competitive club, not assembling the freaking United Nations.

Only one of the most infamous. Can you make a drink that convinces him to sign a 50k a year contract, too?

thats interesting, I have watched Merson play and would love to see someone like him in Fire red

  21. Only places I want to see a the next Fire player come from is Goalland, or Scorestein. (OK - terrible joke).

Who the heck cares where the guy comes from. We just need a quality player who can put the freakin' ball in the back of the net.

Not that I'm against Europeans, but just because someone was born on that continent does not make the Fire automatically better. There is a danger in valuing europe over any other location. How many successful MLS scorers were European? Some, certainly, but not many. Not even close to half.

I'd take a Tayler Twellman any day over another ageing euro-player who is here to extend his playing days and thinks he can get by easy.
