This is my first post on BS (and admittedly, my team is the Metros, but the Crew was stunning today I had to comment because I can't stand the Galaxy) so I imagine the weight of my opinion will take one or two cuts early on, but anyways... I thought the Crew exploited a lot of scoring chances against the Galaxy, I just don't think they made enough of them. McBride was harrassed all day by the LA defense, leaving Buddle to do most of the work. With so much talent up front for the Crew on the roster, they ought to have McBride, Buddle and Cunningham start all at once. Make them all forwards or put someone in mid, I don't know, but Columbus should at least have two central options open at any time. Well, that's my opinion, the first of many...
Welcome to BS(even if you are a Metroscum) This thread probably needs to be moved to the Crew-LA post game thread. I think Andrulis wants to do something like that, but right now it's not a good option because of the games the Crew have to play in CCC. The Crew have 4 more games to go in a two week span. They all need to stay fresh, so they don't fizzle out with this ordeal. Which I don't think Andrulis did a very good job of this Saturday. He played McBride and Buddle all 100 minutes. McBride needed to be taken out with all the soccer he's played lately, he looked very tired by the end of the match. But, maybe Paule's injury forced Andrulis' hand. I know Cunningham was standing on the sideline even before Paule went down getting ready to come in, so maybe he was supposed to come in for one of the forwards, but instead went in for Paule after his injury. However, it still doesn't answer how Cunningham was brought in at the 75' instead of earlier. Especially when it was apperant by the 60' mark that the Galaxy were pressing and getting more and more possession. Cunningham could have came in and helped with that, because once Cunningham gets the ball no one else does(HaHa).
According to Dellacamera, Buddle only got the start over Cunningham because Jeff was dinged up, but available, for the game.
Yes, a showing that divides the commentariat. He creates offense, but little materializes. So do we praise him for igniting the spark, or chastize him for failing to start a fire? We've already divided into camps.
I really don't think playing Buddle/McBride/Cunny at the same time is going to work because it leaves us very thin on bench if we need an offensive spark. It would force Paule/West off the field and I don't see either of them being the type of offensive spark that we would want to come off the bench in a close game.
Could he last Cunningham was certainly very dangerous for the 25 minutes he played. Could he have done it for 90 I don't know. If he had played at that level for at least half the match there were a couple more goals in contest for Columbus. I would think he caught Andrulis' eye so we could see some changes going foward.
In his 25 minutes, he won at least three corners for Air Force 1. Too bad it was another typical McBride showing.
due to depth all three cant start, cunningham needs more minutes though. there are things good and bad to be said about him but the bad ones will hopefully go away if he plays more. btw this was my 1st MLS game i watched in a LONG time, i plan to follow it more often now, i miss the Fusion tho :-(
Now ask yourself if the Crew's best play came with Cunningham in the game or on the bench. Buddle should start and never play in midfield again.
another diehard metro here, it seems it's a situation commentators love to call "a problem every team would love to have," but i'm not so sure...cunningham is extremely talented and has proven he can score...mcbride must start, just because, i'm not a crew fan but even i understand that...leaving you guys with buddle, who IMHO should be mcbride's partner up top...partly bc jeff is too selfish, but that's probably the same reason it will be hard to keep him on the bench...this probably wasn't feasible, but dante should've been kept as the backup forward, and cunningham could've been traded to a team for help elsewhere, wherever you guys saw fit...it would mean banking a lot on buddle, but i think he's going to prove himself every bit this year
Good question, but an impossible factor to isolate from the other game conditions. Just for one example, the Crew started to pump a lot more balls into the box - a typical strategy for a team pushing for their points as the game winds down. Pumping balls into the box was probably not for Jeff Cunningham's benefit. More likely they were for a more imposing Brian McBride. It'll all work out I suspect, esp if Andrulis is juggling lineups to keep players fresh in a crowded schedule. Must annoy the Columbus fans to hear all of us piping in, so I gotta add the Crew looked superb, even without Cunningham. They'll be a lot of fun to watch this season.
I'll have to agree with the comments on the Crew's impressive form. I used to hate the Crew's style of play which I considered extremely boring and "hustle" oriented as epitomized by their label of "hardest working team..." which translates as not enough talent. But wow what a collection of promising young players, and what a job Andrulis has done with it.
This is my 3000th post. To celebrate, I have resurrected the first thread I ever created, with the first post I ever made. (of course, I get to gloat, seeing that Cunningham is the leading scorer in the league...playing in Colorado) Let us now celebrate 2 years and 3000 posts of me.
When I first saw that I thought it was kinda strange that it was your first post even though it said 3000. Congrats, now get a life
With the exception of the infamous "Mike Segroves 3000th Post Party" back in 2002. An absolute classic of the genre. But it's the exception that proves the rule. I'm sure Bailey remembers.
When I read the first post, I couldn't help but think the initial poster was a complete retard... And now, after reading the reason why this thread was brought back; I think the guy's an attention whore, and had to be drunk when he posted his "celebrate two years of me" garbage, or else he's been sniffing the air in Giants Stadium for far too long. Ditto.
Not that the guy needs another ego stroke, but most things he touches turn to gold. Father, forgive me.
