The Screaming Eagles are continuing with their drive to assist United for D.C. (D.C. United's charitable arm) with their Nothing But Nets Challenge by running a special pub crawl on Saturday, April 18.

Cost to participate is $10 (includes Buzzkill t-shirt to wear on the crawl). Obviously as this involves going to bars you must be 21+ years old to attend. Please sign up by sending an email to Kim ( kim@screaming-eagles.com ) and tell her what size shirt you need. We'll take payment at Duffy's and distribute the shirts there (we won't have many extras on hand so we REALLY need to hear from you what size shirt you need). We'd like to raise at least $300 so gather your friends and neighbors (you don't have to be an SE to come out drinking with us!) You can easily get to this area by Metro (take the U St/African American Civil War Memorial exit on the Green/Yellow line).

The plan is to start out at Duffy's (2106 Vermont Ave., NW, across Vermont from the 9:30 Club) starting at 4:00 pm. From there, we’ll move on to the downstairs bar at DC-9 (1940 9th St. NW, just below U St.) around 5:30 pm. Then it’s on to Polly’s (342 U St. NW) around 6:30 pm and lastly to Momo's (1334 U St. NW) around 7:30 pm. Time are all approximate (as we don't have to make a kick off we can be more leisurely on our crawl). We can either hang out at Momo's or head over to Ben's Chili Bowl (we'll see what people want to do).

Duffy’s, the first stop, will be offering weekday happy hour specials to us, ‘cuz our NW DC regiment captain asked nicely.

The Nothing But Nets Challenge is a four-team contest featuring Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, and D.C. United. The Nothing But Nets initiative was founded by the United Nations foundation in an effort to fight Malaria in Africa, where 3,000 children die each day from the deadly disease. For just $10, a family of four can sleep under a medicated bednet for up to four years.

If you can't make the crawl next Saturday, the Nothing But Nets Beauties will be at the SE tailgate with a collection cup at the game on Friday, April 17 OR you can click on the Nothing But Nets Challenge link at the top here and make a donation online.

If you have questions, contact Kim or David at outreach@screaming-eagles.com

I'm getting sign ups, if you're in PLEASE send me a note that you're coming and your shirt size please. (send to kim@screaming-eagles.com) We're trying to travel light so we're not bringing a ton of extra shirts so need to know numbers and sizes.

    Thanks!

Between the pub crawl this past Saturday on U St. and the tips jars we’ve had out at the past few tailgates we’re just a little shy of $500 for our donation to United for D.C.’s Nothing But Nets Challenge.

While we sure aren't Ted Turner or that Ashton character and we won’t get the great press push that has helped Seattle FC in the overall total donations collected (not hurt by having the city of Seattle and the Gates Foundation helping) we are determined to beat Chicago and LA in their sad fundraising efforts!

To get us up (and hopefully a little over) $500, the Nothing But Nets folks will be out at the tailgate taking donations on Wednesday OR you can purchase one of our sexy new black SE T-shirts (proceeds from sales on Wednesday will go towards the Nothing But Nets drive).

The new shirts are $15 and are in limited supply so if you want one, stop by the SE membership table.

If you have questions about this or any other community drive, just drop a note to outreach@screaming-eagles.com

Thanks to all who participated in this campaign, through the tips jars and the pub crawl the SE's raised $602 for the United for DC Team. You can see the final amt here (or make final donation, today is the last day for the challenge)

Well, today is World Malaria Day and the Nothing But Nets Challenge between MLS teams and their supporters has concluded.

You've got to give the folks out in the Pacific Northwest big props - they exceeded their mountainous $20,000 goal!!

    That's right.

    Twenty Thousand Dollars.

    Actually, $20,450.22 to be exact.

Or perhaps as many as 8,000 lives saved.

Any way you look at it - that is an awesome achievement.

Even CNN took notice of Saana Nyassi and the Seattle effort.

Not only do those Sounders crush others in attendance, but now they also are raising the bar elsewhere.

However, DC United supporters didn't do too shabby raising 49% of the team's ambitious $5,000 goal.

Thanks to all who helped out the campaign and special thanks to those who contributed.

BTW, you may not be shocked to learn that the Chicago Fire only raised 32% of their $1,000 goal.

However, even that paltry total is more than the Los Angeles Galaxy with their $230 (or less than 1/10 what the DC United fans pulled together for this worthwhile cause).
