Wirtz has been excellent for Germany in any case - one suspects he will nominally be the left sided attacker once Musiala is back - Havertz should also be fit again soon.
The gegenpressing youtube channel has some interesting comments on Wirtz performance in EPL. Key points were Wirtz is being played out of position(LW like he plays for Germany is his best) and EPL is more physical than the BL(meaning fewer fouls are called). It looks like Havertz and Musiala will return to The NT about the same time.
Not sure either will be available for the NT in November, but obviously should be back by March. So could (hopefully) have our potential first choice attack all available by then.
Another point they made was that Wirtz will probably have to bulk up due to the physicality of the EPL.
I’m still in a state of deep shock. Germany had not lost an away WCQ *ever*. And to lose it to Slovakia without a fight is just terrible. Even if all the games are won and no goal further goal is conceded, this is a poor qualifying campaign IMO. Also, so far, I’ve not been convinced by what I’ve seen. This team is far too reliant on Musiala for the final spark going ahead. If he were to be injured for the WC or a single game, the team doesn’t have anyone who can take on players. On the plus side Kimmich as RB is as good a deal as Kimmich as CM.
Lack the aura? This is not a formidable side. It’s one match at a time with this team. My very modest expectation is to get past the group stage and get past R32 in the WC. The last good game we played was against Spain in the EC.
Have to agree with you. In terms of ability, Kimmich is not very far behind Lahm. Kimmmich tracks back really well . His man marking on set pieces is right up there. And going forward, he is the old school German FB, quick one twos and push ahead. Very Lahm/Brehme like. And he takes set pieces. We need an exceptional tournament from him.
+1 I thought he was excellent at the euros I subscribe to the view that it's all a chemistry issue. The team was at it's best when Nagelsmann shoved Kimmich out to the flank, dumped Goretzka, and handed the team to Kroos. This time he'll need to hand the team to Musiala, Wirtz and the other young guys. Kimmich can still be a big part of it, but I just don't think he can be the man.
Must say Raum taking free kicks and corners way better then Kimmich - Kimmich is needed at RB first goal for NT Woltemade well done
LOL, and some people used to shit on younger Woltemade for his heading skills being "poor" when younger. fastforward like ALMOST all of his goals this season=headers!!!!
Goretzka is the worst thing to happen to Germany counters. Just very slow with ball control and distribution. I get it that he is good as a ball winner and in gegenpress. But he kills any attack before it has begun.
I think its because he's a giant, LOL. a giant who sometimes comes off as lanky. the good thing about Woltemade is that he's taller than ALMOST ALL GKs+CBs, LOL. Not many are same height or taller. he's also not the only giant, in younger CF we have others just as big, LMAO.
this post from less than a month ago, LOL. now Raum with direct FK goal last week and now corner assist today!!!!
