Brightons New coach thinks Germany had a Modrate home Euros. https://www.bavarianfootballworks.c...an-hurzeler-julian-nagelsmann-spain-world-cup
I just want Germany to win their fourth Euro title, and now will have to wait another four years to see if it happens. Let's just hope that Nagelsmann has forged a tournament winning team that his successor can lead to said goal after a 32 year wait. I don't care how, the end result is all that matters to me.
Can't wait for the conclusion of these Euros. It's been painful, seems like eternity when we got knocked out.
We have a better shot of getting a fourth Euro title than England has of catching up to us. I'll root for Spain...def the better team this tourney and that is the only reason why.
so Germany is ONLY knockout team that took Spain to 119th min to beat and only team that took Spain to ET as well. Rest all fell in 90 mins. imagine winning a Euro with Morata as CF and people want to argue that useless Havertz was worth anything, LOL. had we beaten Spain we likely would have won Euro as well. Oh well we are now 1 trophy behind Spain in Euro but not end of world, we can still catch up. annoying how Spain won 3 of past 5 Euros and with that are now #1, that's crazy track record. I still value WCs more than Euros at end of day.
I don't get the obsession with how often other teams have won it. Germany missed two good opportunities to win it in 2016 and 2024 had they beaten France/Spain. I think the quality was definitely there. No need to get angry because the other teams just did their job better. I think this Euro was an even bigger chance than 2016. Besides Spain (and maybe England's resilience and efficiency), there wasn't anything close to special from the other teams. Maybe better luck in the next tournament once Nagelsmann decides to start the match with 11 players.
WOW such a ********ing low scoring tourney. Official: Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane are joint Golden Boot winners. #EURO2024 pic.twitter.com/vUyJrMPHFq— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) July 14, 2024 frick Kane, Musiala had 0 PKs while Kane scored 1 PK. also Musiala had 2 games less than Hawwy too. had Fullkrug not had a goal ruled barely offisde vs Scotland and not hit post vs Spain would have been with 4 goals all as sub.
I've always had a dislike for counting PKs the same as open play or set piece goals. It's pretty much a gimme with an .8xG I believe. All things being equal, the player with the fewest PKs should get it.
OK, now that I've calmed down I must wonder just how seriously will Nagelsmann take the Nations League. Will he not give a crap about it just like his predecessors Löw and Flick? I certainly hope that's not the case and he aims to win it, if only to complete the trophy set. I honestly do not believe Germany will win the 2026 World Cup, though I'll be as happy as any German football fan if they surprise everyone and win it, but as long as Nagelsmann insists on playing Havertz no matter what because he "interprets his role well" or whatever despite a total inability to score, I just can't see it happening. Whatever happens in the next two years, I just hope Nagelsmann leaves behind a team primed to win the 2028 Euro for his successor, whom I suspect will be Wagner. Gotta keep continuity. Reclaiming the spot as record European Champions is now something I want to see happening.
its cool to see that we've won some Golden Boots in past 12 years. SNT -EC12=CF Gomez tied with others -CC17=CF Werner -EC24=AM/W Musiala, tied with others
the "obsession" is that this is a competitive sport where ONLY thing that matters is winning trophies. Why would you want to be in 2nd place in standing??? eh I wouldn't say the other teams did their job better, more like super lucky. -France got super lucky with a PK and that changed entire match. Had Gomez not gotten injured vs Italy we would have won that match too. -Spain, eh, we are unlucky that ref cheats for them with handball and that Fullkrug hits posts. but yeah entire tourney was very weak in quality, I feel like teams from 2000s-2010s were much stronger than current times.
The Golden Boot being won by a W/AM doesn't bode well, because it might perpetuate the false 9 obsession.
As the number of goals scored by top scorer is only 3, it shows a dearth of quality center forward in Europe overall
Euro 2024 had a total of 117 goals scored averaging 2.29 goals per match, only slightly above the 1990 World Cup which had a total 115 goals scored averaging 2.21 goals per match, the lowest ever goals per match in football tournament history.
yup it something that I've mentioned a lot in past few years but I get mostly ignored because people seem to fixated on Germany's CF issues. Although our issues are SELF-MADE ones. And even then we Germany we have a wave of promising next gen CFs anyways who are emerging or sooooon enough. reality ALL our rivals have CF issues. Countries like France can't rely on a Giroud+Benzema anymore. A country like Brazil keep playing with false 9 and it amounts to nothing and they keep struggling. no rival country has impressive CFs, people always brought up Hawwy Kane which I always dismissed as he really doesn't impress even in NT. funny enough vast majority of promising CFs in Europe play for irrelevant NTs. I recall in 2000s and 2010s the best CFs in Europe were all from rival countries, LOL. Fastforward and like NONE are.
This goes directly against your point. They played Morata because he works hard for the team and does his job.
I think Gegenpressing pod nailed it when they said the real difference is that Spain are 2 years further on than Germany Nagelsmann had only months to completely retrofit Germany from Flick's dated Bayern template to a much more vertical and modern style which values possession, pressing and also very fast attacks - more like Leverkusen. But there were a lot of compromises in this team. No pace in midfield. Poor age curve. No winger. Lack of clarity at 9 etc. And just bad luck. On the other side of the draw, the team goes to the final probably.
