The squad selection is a bit underwhelming in places. This tournament was shaping up to be 2010 2.0, with all the promising new talents (Karl, El Mala, Bischof, Ouédraogo, Brown, Urbig/Atubolu etc.) joining the ones that are already there (Wirtz, Musiala, Pavlovic) along with the other good established players (Schlotterbeck, Kimmich, Havertz) to form a team that goes beyond the expectations of most and then forms the basis of an actual winning squad for 2028 and 2030. Now this kind of feels like an alternative version of 2010, where Müller, Özil, Kroos and Khedira stayed at home in favor of Borowski, Hitzlsperger, Trochowski and Träsch.
Sane and Gros should not be on the squad. Sane is on bench with Galatasaray, and not the best player for the locker room. Look at Tuchel leaving out 24/25 year old Palmer and Foden for younger/hungry players and better chemistry
I know some selections are questionable, but overall it's a good squad. I highly doubt we can win it but a decent run is possible. If we can get the balance right and guys like Havertz and Musiala fully fit and close to top form, then I think it will be fun to see those link with like Wirtz and Karl. Undav and Woltemade are also players who can carry a real goal threat. I hope to see a Pavlovic-Nmecha double pivot rather then Goretzka as I think that provides a better platform to feed our attack. I actually prefer Kimmich in a hybrid RB role as I'm not a huge fan of him in the middle, far too much sideways and backwards passing and too easy to press I can imagine Bischof taking his starting spot for Bsyerm in the not too distant future.
I hate the fact that Nagelsmann chose to exclude every young player on the bubble of the squad except Karl and bring underwhelming veterans instead every time.
They already did few months ago. It won't be easy and we need our stars to be in top level especially Musiala to do that. Is there any way to avoid France ?
Musiala wont return to top form till atleast Next season. The psychological recovery is a big factor as well as level of fitness and form. For me the Likes of Wirtz needs to Dominate games if we are to progress past the French!
Agree. Really disappointed with Nagelsmann. I hope im wrong, but i cant see us making it past the round of 16
Considering the group, this is a mere theoretical scenario, though. And when that occurs, we probably have no business at all in the ko round. I favor our chances better against France than Spain and the team already prooved to be capable of beating France in an official match. Is France better? For sure, especially in defense with the exception of keepers. Is it hopeless, though? Far from it. I would prefer an agressive effort. Win every game and smash everybody in front and hope that form and success will carry further even against a better team on paper. Like the 2006 quarter final vs Argentina. If the team succeed against France, they have very good chances to reach the semi final or even go all the way.
But if we guaranteed qualifying after the first 2 matches , don't you think it is wise to play with reserves in 3rd match to end up as 2nd and avoid meeting favorites France. For example, if Füllkrug did not score against Switzerland in Euro 2024 , we would have avoided Spain and maybe ended up winning the tournament or reaching the final at least.
This never pays off. You break rhythm for your starting 11 and you gamble with the confidence of the team. The poisoned sting of avoiding a stronger team will have a devastating effect. We probably will go a round further but also are more likely to lose vs a team as strong or weaker than us. A very strong team like France, that is expected to win every time, can maybe use such a strategy but we go into the tourney with a fractured team and a questionable morale. We have to overcome this weakness at all costs. At least, that would be my attempt if I would be in Nagelmann's position.
Also Tresoldi scored his 17th goal to go on top of the table. I wish Nagelsmann selected him for WC since he will get many offers in summer and might be poached.
I don't know why DFB extended Nagelsmann's contract until the Euro 28, If it's me I probably want to see outcome from this WC 26 first. So far, I am not really convince by Nagelsmann's tactics and approach. When we won WC 14, it's base on team's spirit, physical and discipline, we even play 3 CB with Howedes Hummel + Boateng, but with the current's fancy build up It's not really a German thing. We never succeess or win anything with this kind of play.
Selecting someone who has never played for the NT directly in the World Cup squad in fear of losing the player to another nation is never a good idea. Especially as selecting him would have meant dropping a deserving attacker from the squad. If he thinks he should play for another country because he was not selected for the World Cup, then he should play for another country. Nagelsmann is right in not selecting him, makes no sense
You might be right but you won't expect 26 players to play all matches. Usually it is only 15-16 players who play. Moukoko was selected for WC at 18 so Tresoldi at 21 and being top german scorer wouldn't have been a bad idea imo especially that we are struggling with striker position( Woltemade the only pure one and Undav is not a long term option due to his age).
Moukoko had earned his place. He scored several goals including a couple of excellent goals playing for a top club like BVB in a top for 4 league in the Europe. He wasn’t given a free pass to the squad
