I don't think Arsene wants to leave Arsenal but I am certain that his is in the ring for the German NT job together with coaches like Rehhagel, Matthäus (*argh*) and some others. Prime target was Hitzfeld and everybody was sure he would make it.....finally he refused so that there is a little bit of chaos at DFB (German FA).

Money wouldn't be the problem I guess. Hitzfeld would have earned something 4+ Mio Euro and that isn't the final word, I guess.

I'm sure that the Arsenal board would more than match what the German FA would pay Wenger.

yeah, I sure hope so. You would hope after watching Greece this year they will fully understand the importance of a top-notch manager.

Euro that is (1GPB equals 1,5 Euro) -> 4 Mio Euro=2,7 Mio GBP

That was the (rumoured) money offered to Hitzfeld. According to sport1.de Wenger earns 3 Mio Euro/year at Arsenal (2 Mio GBP)...don't know whether that's true. Adding to these numbers you have to take in account that taxes in Germany are higher (especially for top earners -> 40+%).

At all I can't imagine Wenger leaving Arsenal as he surely wants to play in new stadium Ashburton Grove and still is on his mission to win the Champions League sometime ;-). On the other hand he was always a coach that did the unexpected (going to Japan). So who knows?!?

Btw, apart from this discussion is Otto Rehhagel still top candidate for the DFB job.

The Arsenal board will never let Arsene Wenger leave because they couldn't afford his wages. He gets over 4 million Euro's a year already when you take into consideration bonus's e.t.c.

One thing which has made me take a bit of notice to all this rumour mongering is that he has put his house in Totteridge up for sale..... Not trying to start any rumour here as he may of just wanted to move, but.........

News from todays kicker (German quality sports magazine):

Wenger refused a possible move to Germany as he has contract with Arsenal till 2005 and the new season is about to start in a few weeks. He don't hink that Arsenal would let him go right now. In October he will decide what he will do from 2005 on.

Still no online source available at htpp://www.kicker.de.

How much detail do we need? I think that "I coach the greatest club in the world, we're miving into a new stadium, and we definately have the potential to win everything this year, bitches," would have been enough.

I don't think Wenger willl want to leave because of the new Ashburton Grove project and he wants to win the European Champions League to. So I could see him signing a new contract.
A cunning ploy i think though, as with more clubs interested in him the arsenal board will have to offer him a higher contract;)
