Another question answered, Goretzka will not be going to the Euros.

My guess is our DM/M selection will be Kroos, Andrich, Pavlovic, Gross and Gundogan (likely to be used more advanced). Maybe outside chance for Stiller?

Also it's announced Undav will be there. Nice to see us bring at least 2 natural CF options along with Havertz. Maybe Beier will be there too?

I think Kai Havertz's move to Chelsea is a blueprint of what NOT to do for a young player.

Kai should have stayed one or two years more at Leverkusen and then moved. Too many young players are rushing to big clubs too early and then if they don't mega-perform immediately they get labelled as flops, which damages them psychologically. Wirtz should stay for another two years at Leverkusen, continue to develop, and then look to move.

Looking at what happened to Havertz, I would say that two of the most crucial things a young player of great potential needs to properly develop are a stable club environment and a father-figure manager who believes in him.

Obviously I cannot say this for certain but I feel that one of the worst things to happen for Germany is Havertz's 3 years of stagnation at the chaotic environment of Chelsea.

He won Chelsea the CL with his crucial goals. An achievement most players never reach over the span of their whole career. It's very difficult to call that a mistake. In this case it's also very hypothetically to explain the gap of what a player he became and what us was promised what player he could get. Look at Götze, Durm, Schürrle or Kramer and what the early win of the World Championship likely did to them.. I think, Havertz does pretty good all things considered. He's not a generational talent but I rate him very high, especially his versatility.

Durm was always injured. Gotze had medical issues which is why he never lived up to potential. Schurrle admitted that he never had the mentality for pro footy aka he had tons of issues with the pressure and strain of pro footy as well as feeling depressed about competitive footy etc. Kramer I forgot what were his issues.

but a lot of reason why they never reached for the top is present.

Kramer apparently has no memory of playing in the World Cup final, due to the concussion he suffered early in the match.

its good to call up Undav and Pavlovic to perm cap both. After all we've had nothing but friendlies for 2 years.

that's one good thing post Euro we got WCQ and NL for competitive games.

honestly thank God we were hosts for Euro 2024.....the way we played with Flick we would have failed to qualify for Euro 2024 if we weren't hosts, LOL.

A real shame Hummels won't get the final shot at winning the Euro with the NT he wanted so much.

I can only hope he uses that as fuel to help BVB upset the odds and win the CL.

I'm guessing it relates to what Nagelsmann said during the last international break, that his final squad is pretty much set in stone and the ones being confirmed were the doubtful ones.

on topic of Gotze+Schurrle, I would say at end of day they lived up to their potential. 1st 2 players born in Unified Germany combine for world class assist+world class goal to win us our 1st WC in 24 years. Gotze's goal was also the hardest chance in final, LOL. Maybe they aren't in pantheon of greatest ever even from German POV but who cares they won us the WC.....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!

as for M, I do wonder is their a point of calling up Gross??? Like would much rather see Stiller called up tbh. Stiller is younger, more potential, going to play CL next season and attracting interest from top clubs too. Gross is headed towards winding down of his career.

Agreed on Götze and Schürrle. They might not have had stellar careers, but they combined to score Germany's World Cup winning goal, so they've both earned a lifetime pass as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, that's my whole point about Havertz as well. Winning the CL with crucial goals with the club he just went to can hardly be criticized as wrong decision. Even if most off us wished, that he would become even a better player than he is. He will have the chance to do so, though. His quality for sure is the ability to score in finals. He has proven that several times.

havertz main issue at chelsea was the acquisition of the club by Boehly. completely destabilised the team. Glad he got out of there.

    wow Goretzka not going?

He's played quite well lately, so I am surprised he wouldn't at least be cover for 8/6 and as super sub? Maybe its a personality thing?

I guess this means Andrich/Pavlovic have one DCM berth locked. Kroos will start in his special Left DCM position, presumably with Gundo ahead of them both.

Wirtz, Musiala can both play at ACM if needed. So lots of cover at attacking midfield,

Gundo is presumably the cover for Kroos. One of them needs to be in the team as the midfield playmaker, if not both.

But i am a bit surprised that Goretzka would not travel as a specialist 8 though - i guess Nagelsmann just prefers Gross in terms of a guy who is happy to be that cover in midfield?

He sit on the bench for the whole semi final though and I am not sure how well he has played despite his goals. It's a bit like with Hummels, who at least started always for BVB but despite a good semi final outing is very inconsistent in the league the whole season. I trust Nagelsmann that he will decide what it's best for the team. I wonder what has happened to the Leon Goretzka 2 years ago who was named best of the world on his position by some. Quite some downgrade.
