Fabio Capello's England side will face Germany in a friendly in Berlin later this year, it was announced on Friday. The match will be played on November 19 in the Olympic Stadium, the venue for the 2006 World Cup final. Capello said: 'This should be a great match. I'm delighted this fixture has been arranged, it should be a real challenge and something the players will look forward to.' The last time England played away against Germany was the famous 5-1 victory in Munich in 2001 when Michael Owen scored a hat-trick. The last meeting between the two sides was at Wembley last August when Germany outplayed Steve McClaren's England team to record a 2-1 victory. Capello's first match in charge is the sell-out home game against Switzerland at Wembley on February 6. England then travel to Paris to play another friendly against France on March 26. Talks are still taking place on England's summer fixtures, including a likely match against Scotland at Wembley. England have not played in Berlin since they met West Germany for their 1972 European Championship quarter-final, second-leg, which ended in a goalless draw. I will be there since I spend summers in Germany .
I really didn't want this open so early, but we will let it stay open for a bit. Any trouble and it gets closed. I would also caution those who want to go over to the England forum, be aware of the rules there as well. DO NOT complain about other mods from other forums in here.
England came into this match and defended in depth and kicked lumps out of everyone. Netzer said "Today, the whole team autographed my leg".
As long as Hildebrand does not play I will be happy. Another 5-1 will never happen for them again. Kahn and the back four played like a shower of shit back then. I think Capello will be able to improve this desaster of a team but I wouldn't mind taking revenge for Munich after we beat them with a B/C side, not at all.
It won`t be an easy game for us. The english team is goin to be fresh and motivated meanwhile our boys are still exhausted from ( winning) the EC. We will propably have many players who are injured or not 100% fit, so I won`t be too disappointed if we lose.
Don´t mention Wembley, when our 3rd squad smashed them and the fans outsung them leaving them in the mess that resulted in their Euro qualification desaster. I dont know why the DFB agreed in that. Albania is more of a test.
Lets just make this this the lets talk shit about England and how they didn't make it to the Euros thread.
LOL. You can take that to World Rivalries...where there are probaly like 2-3 threads like that floating about. fun!
It can be fun at times... Just don't get caught on the other side of the fence and don't ever, ever try to validate an argument with facts - ever!
I think franz has officially lost it here. Check out this crap. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internationals/7218296.stm Former Germany World Cup winner Franz Beckenbaeur believes the Italian coach should give the LA Galaxy player the chance to join Peter Shilton, Bobby Moore, Sir Bobby Charlton and Billy Wright in the exclusive club. "I don't know what Capello's future planning is with regards to England," Beckenbauer said. "What I do know is that it's always a nice gesture to give a world-class player, a living legend like Beckham is, a chance to play his 100th cap even if you are planning the future without him."
I do understand what he means maybe when it comes to giving Beckham a sort of honourary last cap but if you ask me, Franz has lost it long ago. He may have enormous influence still and he did so much for German football but sometimes he simply talks a bunch of nonsense.
I sort of understand what he is saying, because of his status - not that I think that deserves 100 caps - but to compare him to shilton etc as a footballer alone is a joke. He is overhyped, the inventor of the cosy celebrity culture, and overall an above average player who never got praise from the corridors of old trafford that was anything more than "great engine, amazing dead ball striker". We all know what George Best has to say about him. On top of that, he is a 5 times major tournament failure, and was never better than the 4th best midfielder at Man Utd. Something tells me Franz is going senile, because a "living legend" is a player like played with, like Gerd Mueller.
Shhh, please. A quick reminder that Franz is always right, as evidenced by his achievements. His interviews must not be taken word for word. They are revelations which you must interpret in a meaningful way (or just ignore...easier).
