I was thinking of vacationing in Germany. I'm wondering how the Germans treat Americans. Also how do they feel about americans living in germany.
German's in general have no problems with Americans. Sure that hate our bull in china shop style of foreign policy, but as long as you're not behaving like a lunk head or typical annoying tourist you'll be fine. While many German's speak English I'd recommend you at least try to learn some German, just so you can avoid asking every single person "do you speak English?".
An American friend of mine lived in Germany for years and said he had a good time and that people were fine towards him. My dad lived there too for a few years and said the same. Like Meridian said, just don't act like a lunkhead or an annoying tourist and you will be good to go.
You could face anti-Americanism anywhere in the world. But I don't believe it's any worse in Germany than say, Bulgaria or whatever. Just act like a decent human being and people should be fine towards you.
The Germans will treat you better than the stinking french do. Tourist dollars speak volumes, just wait until 2006 to act like a lunk head over there, then all will be forgiven. Do learn the language though, or enough of it so you can order beer and bratwurst
