So Dortmund sell one of their biggest German assets and sign more foreign youngsters (Coulibaly, Madueke/Malen etc).

Impossible to build a strong core that don’t see the club as a stepping stone with this approach.

Sancho out this Summer and Haaland in 2022. Neverending loop for Dortmund, but reality this club is more interested in making $$$ over winning trophies.

I'm a big fans of Brandt and I know his performance was very bad these last 2 seasons. But he is very talented and very technical. Brandt case is totally different compared to Werner. He deserved better chance especially under new coach in Rose. With his technical skill, he might become our own De Bruyne if he could rejuvenate his fitness level and especially his confidence level.

his 1st season at Dortmund wasn't that bad.

I think Brandt's issue is problem for too many Germans. What's his position? CM, AM, W, false 9. Guy plays all over place, and people wonder why he's not consistant, every position has its own role.

hopefully at Lazio sticks to 1 position.

Well to play the devil advocate, the problem with Julian is not only about the multi position. Thorgan Hazard also played in multi position, and while Thorgan not really exceptional but he was decent.

Julian problem is more on mentality. He need proper coach and he could become one of the best AM in bundesliga

The Julian curse....can we have one that is a bonafide player for the NT long term? :p

So far it's been Schieber, Korb, Draxler, Weigl, Brandt...maybe more

I'm staying neutral on Weigl right now, but would like to see Brandt be able to emerge again

Do you know Mats middle name is Julian? Mats Julian Hummels. I know from German football channel in Youtube when Halstenberg played in some sort of quiz with Jonas Hoffman.

Yeah, but what choice do they have? Both players were going to go, and I'm sure Dortmund would have preferred to keep them on the team. Better to get money than risk a free transfer.

Dortmund has choice of not being dev/selling club. The club brings these players knowing 100% they wont stick around. Its all about money. Stuttgart is doing same thing due Sven Mislintat (Dortmund, 2006-2017, Stuttgart=2019-present) is one who started that trend of money money money.

Hoeness and tons at Bayern mock Dortmund's lack of ambition and how at Bayern players only leave when club allows it. Sure some exception but players stay long term.

Losing someone like Haaland is totally different from losing the likes of Aubameyang, Gundogan, Mkhitaryan, Kagawa, Sahin. Someone with talent like Haaland would be very very hard to retain. This guy is once in a decade level of talent. It's like blaming MU for losing CR7.

For Lewa case, you might blame BVB or may not. IIRC, Lewa is a big fan of Bayern.

With that being said, BVB management definitely shot themselves in the leg by losing Auba, Gundog et al. However losing Haaland is a completely different case.

As for Sancho, it is a no brainer that English players only using bundesliga as stepping stone.

Haaland also only using Dortmund. Only reason he joined is due to 0 CF competition can be XI in every match including CL.

Its not surprising that reps had most of Dortmund's foreign contingent as ditching if Dortmund fail to make CL.

anyways, this thread is about Germans not user mentality that are dev for $$$.

Yes, but while they are a t Dortmund, they are building the best club possible plus making cash to scout for the next superstar. The only club in Germany that can afford to keep them, and has the prestige to keep them (by being CL contenders) is Bayern.

I agree that it won't get you on a permanent level to the likes of a club like Bayern, Man U, Man C, etc. but that requires deep pockets and a long term strategy.

And most foreign superstars will want to move to EPL or Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Unless you think there is a reasonable amount of money Haaland and Sancho could be offered to keep them (that couldn't be outbid by foreign clubs or Bayern)?
One that wouldn't bankrupt the club?

Sorry, I posted before reading this. Yes, it would be more appropriate in a Bundesliga/Dortmund forum.

There's also the low-key Max (Maximilian) curse with Maxi Philipp, Meyer, Arnold...Philipp Max. All not necessarily becoming proper NT options ;)
