lol that Waldschmidt can't even bench Seferovic. seriously way too many dumb German transfers over past year.
If Waldschmidt is competing with Seferovic for a starting spot, there is something wrong. Waldschmidt is at his best behind a Seferovic type of striker. Luca is not an elite talent so it will not be a surprise if he fails at Benfica. Whether he is a starter for a mid-table club or a squad player for a big club, it will not change much for the national team. Loew needs to look elsewhere for a top number 9. Waldschmidt is not the answer. Neither is Werner(who struggles in possession-based teams) by the looks of it.
Frankly, the state of striker development in Germany remains weak and well behind many countries in Europe. One that showed promise early, Davie Selke, has regressed dramatically in recent years. Uth hasn't shown consistency at a high level. While other guys like Füllkrug and Ginczek can never stay healthy for a whole season. For Niederlechner it looks like the ship has sailed as he hasn't shown that he can perform at a larger club.
Looks like Julian Brandt begins the season on a bench and behind Bellingham and Reyna in the team charts right now https://www.kicker.de/brandt-hat-es-derzeit-schwer-beim-bvb-784783/artikel
feels like Germans are flopping at Dortmund in past few years outside of Reus/Hummels. Weird how they thrive at Bayern but underperform at Dortmund. It's been said that Brandt had a bad preseason but with triple competition he'll still play a lot and very flexible too.
Philipp, Dahoud, Ginter, Weigl, Rode, Schulz, Wolf, etc. Ultimately they just weren't players that could take their game to the next level. Even Schürrle and Götze on the decline of their careers.
Schürrle was a weird one. I thought he was surprisingly great in his first Chelsea season and then I don't exactly understand what happened to him.
Yeah, even though he wasn't necessarily a bonafide every day starter at Chelsea I thought he did reasonably well there too in his first season. But he fell off significantly afterwards. Wolfsburg way overpaid for him, I guess Chelsea knew they would because of the money from selling De Bruyne. And later Dortmund got bamboozled too. He was quite injury prone in his later years in Germany and eventually he just lost the drive and motivation. He pretty much just lived off his previous fame from playing for big clubs and being a part of the 2014 WC champs.
Maximilian Philipp continues to be poor at Dynamo Moscow. Only 1 goal through 7 Russian league games, and the team gets knocked out of Europa league qualifiers today after losing to Lokomotivi Tbilisi.
Those Bellingham and Reyna are not going to play ahead of Brandt...that was DFB Pokal first round and nothing to read from a first match of the season against a worthless opponent
Brandt was decent last season but nothing special. He hasn't shown that he can elevate his game at the next level yet.
he contributed to 20 goals last season but what exactly is his position? Is he CM,AM, false 9,LW or RW. Been playing all over the place.
never got the Russia move, like whats point of that. Just more Germans in random transfer. I feel like Philipp is outdated player he's a SS......
Philipp is a mid-table Buli player that Dortmund thought could've been a lite version of Reus. So they overpaid for him but he disappointed and the club just wanted to recuperate the original transfer fee. If he can't perform that great in the Russian league then that's on him.
Waldschmidt was named as MOTM after bagging a brace in Benfica's 5-1 win vs Famalicao 😁 #FCFSLB #WeAreBenfica pic.twitter.com/vkhwH3Od7L— SL Benfica (@slbenfica_en) September 18, 2020
Koch needs to learn quickly that he won't be getting away with errors so easily now that he's in a tougher league. If he doesn't improve then it won't be surprising if he gets benched.
Brandt was acually good last season . I'm more worried that Brandt will push to leave, which would suck, as I think that he can be Reus's long term replacement.
I agree Brandt was good, he also played well as an 8. Very disappointed to see him benched for a kid like Bellingham.
My blood boiled seeing Brandt and Dahoud getting benched in favor of 17 years old kid from England. I am not a lunatic opposed of playing foreign players and I have lots of foreign players I adore. But to play this Bellingham kid over Brandt and Dahoud is too much for me. Brandt is technically very good and you need someone like him to break the defense. Or at least Dahoud who showed after the prolonged covid break he was one of Dortmund best midfielder with his energy and movement.
