German Fraulein National Team 2020 & beyond

Germany should be leading this 2-0, or even 3-0. They played their best 45 mins of tournament football in years, with MVT's best 45 mins of her time with this national team.

Dominant from start to end, Oberdorf is doing well in her latest new role, with the main issue so far being Bühl not being at her best.

 

The way they continuously try to intimidate Germany with physicality, I don't think it's fear which is the deciding factor so far.

 

Huth has been showing her Wolfsburg form, meaning she's been creating great chances for Schüller.

Brand coming on for Bühl might be the most obvious change in the second half, but Popp will probably get some match time at some point too.

 

Completely disagree, there's no urgency in the box at all from Denmark. Don't get me wrong Germany are playing fast tempo and taking it to Denmark. Sure Denmark has been involved in a few physical challenges but being physical doesn't mean you aren't playing scared. And Denmark look frightened especially central. Denmark are trying to win the ball in areas they know they cant win it.

I'm a Germany fan don't get me wrong this is great to see them do so well, but I just wanted to point out how poorly Denmark have been so far, while also giving credit to Germany for playing such a great half.

 

Of course. But blonds are quite common in Europe. Redheads are not really common anywhere. At least this is not Asia where there are so many 5 foot 3 players with beautiful silky black hair that it is sometimes hard to tell who is on the ball. Sometimes my old eyes need extra visual clues to identify players. That is one reason I like watching the US. ex. Even though Malory Pugh and Sophia Smith look somewhat alike and regularly switch positions it is easy to tell them apart because their hair is very different. Smith's hair looks like it would be suitable for use to flog the opposition. I wonder if she will get carded sometime for using that braided hair as a weapon?

BTW: At times China and Japan and most of Asia can be very hard to watch. It is real hard for my eyes to really see the difference between players on the field. You would think with all the time I have spent in SE Asia and Japan that the visual differences between people would become easy to see even at a distance but my occidental eyes just cannot easily differentiate between many people even in regular or normal settings.

 

Germany need to come out in the 2nd half, and assert their dominance with goals. The good thing about the first half, was seeing Germany finally showcase some form of identity in how the want to play; but now they have to score the goals the good work deserves.

Brand, Waßmuth, Lohmann, Lattwein, Dallmann, and more... can all come into this match and improve their effectiveness too. I don't like Oberdorf being on a yellow, and her being the only DM in this squad, but this is MVT test now.

 

Subs please.... Germany's left needs an upgrade.

 

It looks like Denmark will get the first "upgrade."

 

Gwinn isn't having a good game again... But the major issue now is Germany making sure they don't give Denmark any hope.

One match does not show anything as far as overall quality goes. Now if they can keep up this play...

On a different point: There is a technique that goalkeepers are taught that is easy to teach and hard to master and only very few goalkeepers worldwide can execute it in live play with any consistency. I call it the "sideways dive" but it is not really that. It is a drop/collapse of the leg nearest the ball with a strong push with the other leg followed by a push with the collapsed leg. If done properly the keeper pretty much slides about 3-4 inches above the ground toward the post. That allows for no balls underneath while covering at least half the goal during the move. I once had a U14 goalkeeper that could almost make that dive from one post to the other. That is she could cover 8 yards with her body blocking all the bottom of the goal all the way.
The Danish keeper seems to have that skill mastered as she has made a couple of saves that utilized that dive and it looked like she was very comfortable doing it. Impressive.

The Denmark keeper does have a clear weakness in that she does not correctly close down the angles at the near post. 99.999% of the time a near post goal is the 'keeper's fault. She just does not get far enough toward the near post. Maybe she does not trust her defense.

 

Brand has given life to the left, and now Popp makes this 4-0...
