Germany in U-17 final. 0:0 after 90 minutes and then 4:3 on penalties. Mirja Kropp saved a penalty and the last Spanish penalty was shot over the bar. In Final now against France who also won on penalties. (4:1 attempts for Spain is not much for 90 minutes but at least good penalties by Germany)
Well done the u17's, and especially well done Loderer.... From struggling to qualify, to being the first German u17's crowned European champions in 4 years, was a genuinely great accomplishment. Sticking with a 4-4-2 for the whole tournament, Loderer saw all the various offensive issues from the qualifying rounds, and seemed to understand her teams best route to succeess was a more stable defensive structure... and I guess this approach worked pretty well in the end lol. So again... this was a great accomplishment for Loderer; having never previously looked like a coach capable of such an accomplishment (They managed to lose to Northern Ireland in the 3rd group stage match...) Players too watch... Offensively I thought Kleemann looked really technically proficient during qualifying, and was one of the best players for the team over the course of the finals. But from what little I saw, I also thought Bayern's Choisy once again a stand out offensively, with Giesen during playing wide left looking really promising, while Ernst also being pretty impressive as a CB too. Does this u17 cycle impress me like the last u17 champs... I don't think so... The last u17 Euro champs featuring names Alber, Bender, Steiner, Alara, Veit, Böhler, Stoldt. I'm not sure as many stand outs will come from this particular group of u17 players, but they definitely accomplished something which should force people to pay attention to how how they continue to progress during the WC, and beyond.
At club level I wonder if Frankfurt's big rebuild will finally have room for inserting various young wnt talent like Kleemann from their youth teams, instead of the club continuing to allow them leave and thrive at rival clubs... But what I do know is that Bayern have acquired a lot if young domestic wnt talent, that I don't actually see breaking into their first team... Freiburg for me the club who looks like it's going to be taking over from Essen as the leagues DFB development center lol; building another roster of impressive young wnt talent who WILL be seeing game time in the nations top division. Across u17, u19, and u23's, Freiburg have a host of names on the squads, and at least one of the stand out players across each age group...
June 5th and June 9th, the u19's are going to have two friendlies Vs USA's u19's as their preparation for the coming Euro's. After Loderer's surprise Euro victory with the u17's, will we actually see Behringer learn anything from qualifying and establish an improved formula to help her u19's for the coming Euro's..? The only German wnt to use a 3-5-2, they've scored goals, but never enough goals to really justify appearing as defensively unstable as they do... Facing the USA twice, probably intending to further test the back 3 CB's ability to better contest 1v1 duels of speed and physicality more competenly.
The senior wnt set to see the lastest squad selected for WC qualification; and after the latest random collapse vs an inferior opponent, I'd like to believe we see one key change to the nature of the mid-field (I'm looking at there being no more wasting time with Freigang...) ATTACK: -------------- Cerci/Anyomi/Schüller ---------------- Bühl/Endemann ---------------- Brand/Dallmann Potential improvements... WF: Baum, Bender. FW: Kössler. Germany needs another young wide forward, and preferably this option being a dynamic 1v1 dribbler who can generate shots on goal. MID-FIELD: -- Nüsken/CM? ---------- Freigang/Mühlhaus -- --------------------- Senß/Gräwe ------------------------ Potential Improvements... CM: Wrede, Oberdorf, Piljic, Lattwein, Lohmann. DM: Deihm This current mid-field simply isn't constructed with elite quality, or the needed balance. To be able to compete for titles, Germany requiring at least 2 elite box to box CM's, who can dictate tempo through progressive dribbling and passing. DEFENSE: Kett/Linder ------------------------- Gwinn/Wamser -------- Küver/Knaak -------- Minge/Veit --------- Potential Improvements... CB: Ostemeier, Kleinherne, Landenberger. FB: Gonzalez This squad needs to find a CB who can make elite recoveries, using speed and intelligence to cover the more agreesive CB partner who's job will be to attack the ball.
The DFB is releasing a new documentary about its women's national team titled "The Journey is the Team". 6 part series premieres on Sunday, May 24, 2026 exclusively on the association's channel DFB.TV, and mainly follows Christian Wück's 2025 team through a full season. The episodes length approximately 30-minute per episode, focuing on the stories of what the DFB calls a "year of change"; major attention here being given to the Euro's quarter-final match against France... The documentary begins with a look back at the 2024 Olympic Games, but spends most attention on the European Championship in Switzerland, and then ends with the UEFA Women's Nations League final Vs Spain. Unlike the choas associated to the MVT era of the wnt, it will be interesting to see the transition from the instability of Hrubesch's Olympics team to the sense of uncertainty coning with the early Wück era. From Olympic bronze, Euro's semi final defeat, and Nations League final defeat over two matches... it feels like the DFB are documenting these tournaments honestly expecting to see these women evetually winning something lol...

Germany beat USA 2-1 in u15 action yesterday! Only 12 days to go until the showdown with Norway—when will Wuck announce his squad?
LOL... Germany have NEVER won this competition; this even when the u17's had a past of sending legitimately dominant Euro championship teams to compete at the WC. This age group at WC level has NEVER been easy for Germany...
So does this mean Berger likely to be ruled out of the WC? Surviving Cancer, and then having this random moment potentially rule you out of a WC would be crazy.
This was my predicted wnt squad... and before we knew Gwinn would be having surgery on her shoulder, I was very close to putting Müller back in contention, but was unsure if she would be part of the u23's first. Seeing Kleinherne and Hendrich return is great, as both these CB's still the best Germany has to offer right now when it comes to making successful ball recoveries. I kept asking when is Freigang finally removed, but now have no idea why there's no new CM selected as her direct replacement.., when this vital area of the team still remains increadibly weak. I'm guessing Minge moves into a DM/CM role now, but honestly this shouldn't be considered a realistic long term option when we know Oberdorf will return. Piljic, Wrede, Diehm, are all coming off seasons they're looking better than current WNT 1st team options...; Lohmann, and Lattwien, also legitimate upgrades over whatever Freigang provided for so many years. In the absence of an injured Anyomi, Kössler is finally brought back to the senior wnt, but in a squad that still features the presence of more dead weight in Martinez... Wück still continuing to select Cerci as a wide forward remains baffeling, and could see her miss a world cup if Baum, and Bender take the jump I expect...
Senior team reserve options: Borggräfe Grohs Gonzalez Mattner Rauch Solano Veit Lohmann Zicai Freigang Weidauer Rauch ahead of Lührßen or Kaut is stupid lol. Piljic being injured surely the only reason she wasn't given her senior wnt sqaud debut. Zicai nowhere near senior wnt levels... Baum, and Bender both in there current incomplete conditions of development, still more deserving of senior wnt recognition. Lohmann better wake up to her potential soon; there's no way Germany's CM options will remain this low to keep her in the minds of wnt coaches... Ostemeier still being ignored remains a mystery. A taller, quicker version of Knaak, possessing better long range passing qualities too... the thought she'd continued to be left out because she's right footed is honestly stupid. If Gonzalez, and Mattner are senior wnt FB's in waiting mode, I still have no idea what Weidauer is when it comes to a wnt program Steiner, Schimmer, and Birkholz, all seem to offer more intriguing offensive possibilities. Plus lets keep this 100% honest... Dick, Borbe, and Grohs, could all hold legit claims to be ahead of Johannes for wnt selection...
