Yes, Lehmann right now making the rounds of local English pubs, but even an punch drunk Sydney would be more exciting to watch then this game
Look at the shape of this team.. and compare it to how everyone was positioned in the first encounter a few days ago. Wück has been embarrassingly low IQ with the way he's set this team out tactically... wow... At no point has he told Senß to go back to her DM pivot role, and positioned Nüsken and Mühlhaus as AM's... They are not generating any offense, because they aren't forcing Austrian defenders to move. Everything is so basic... it means they'll need luck to win this game today.
Wück ends the Euro's saying he has to make tactical adjustments. We see the reintroduction of a DM pivot for a changed 4-3-3 formation, producing significantly improved performances. This improved quality of play within a 4-3-3 lasts for a series of games, until today where Wück decides to revert back to a 4-2-4, at no point switching back to what worked just a few days prior. He'll blame the players for this, but this is 100% Wück. As today's performance is EXCATLY like watching the highly underwhelming Euro's team...
It's not a coincidence we've seen Minge be sent off today. We saw the same issues with Germany during Wück's opening run of games. Errors typically the result of players not being comfortable in the system. The fact Minge would be sent off, a direct result of this team lacking anything resembling structure.
I feel frustrated for Mühlhaus.... But how does Martinez come on instead of Cerci.. Wück having a epic downfall today lol
Martinez is terrible lol. Cerci one of the leagues best players for multiple seasons, and these dummies think a bottom feeder playing Martinez is the difference maker to help a 10 woman German wnt...
I don't EVER want to see this wnt using a double 6. I don't care if Oberdorf returns to peak of her powers... with this team, it has to become a feature they always deploy a single DM pivot. The lack of creativity witnessed with this team deploying a double 6 of Senß - Nüsken well known. So to see it randonly thrown out again for this game has been pretty shocking.
FT 0-0: Truly woeful display from Germany, that looked like it was from Wück's first run of game as head coach for this team. A masterclass in tactical ineptitude. This another reminder why Germany won't be a real contender until these damn coaches lock in a truly defined indentity/style of play.
Minge's red card a direct consequence of the team playing without a DM pivot to help them recycle possession. Too many backwards passing to CB's, and GK, the same theme that's seen Wück's team suffer various poor results. The positional triangles that create good passing options simply never had a opportunity to exist today Vs Austria. Ball movement practically slowed to a crawl. Mühlhaus becoming the latest AM forced into a wnt incorrectly tasking them to be a 2nd striker: seriously... if Wück did this Vs Slovenia, or Norway, they get comfortably beaten today... The idea the coaches continue to change the system depending on the players selected has to stop. This practice making zero sense considering the obvious strengths and weakness of the national player pool. Early days of 4-2-4 was clearly horrible. The 5-2-3 during the Euro's a direct result of the 4-2-4 being incompatible with the squads talent pool. Then post Euro's we see a switch to 4-3-3, which worked significantly better than anything Wuck did prior. Even using Brand in AM, and Wamser as a wide forward, the team so much more compact, it made everything overall more effective. So... why aren't these dummies just selecting better options for the changed 4-3-3 DM pivot formation...? Why did they need to revert to a 4-2-4 with the full debut of Mühlhaus...?
The moment I saw Berger recieve passes from the CB's and FB's, with no sign of Senß, Nüsken, Mühlhaus, coming deep to dictate tempo, or initiate attacks... I knew something was wrong. But seeing the coaches refuse to adress this for 90 mins is crazy, knowing these the same coaches who started WC qualification talking about wanting to truly defining there current 4-3-3 system... Senß was shining as a DM pivot. Nüsken had finally become somewhat effective crashing the box. The team generating loads of chances with an extra AM. Why stop this today..? Wamser at RB looking confused for 90 mins behind Brand. Even Kett would come on and appear hesitant, as the various passing options she enjoys no longer visible to her. Schüller went straight back to Man Utd invisible woman Schüller lol. This how inept Germany were tactically. And this frustration only made worse seeing Martinez thrown on while Cerci stuck to the bench... I don't believe a German wnt can classed as a contender with a Nüsken type CM being a starter, or not having at least two elite box to box AM's in the team. But facing Austria in back to back games, why would Wück remove everything that worked for Senß, and Nüsken, in game 1, to instead force them back to the disastrous Euro's style double 6 for game 2... If Wück decides on ever repeating this garbage Vs either Slovenia, and Norway, Germany's World Cup tickets won't be gaurenteed.
Wück didn't take any responsibility for his teams performance... and just said Austria made it difficult to break them down... But I hope Wück away from the media truly accepts this was his fault, where his choices made life a lot easier for Austria's defensive posture. The minor tactical adjustments witnessed Vs Austria were completely unesssary, and brought back many of the negative elements that were on full display during the Euro's too. Treating this 0-0 like an inconvenience is slighlty concerning, when I feel this was definitely celebrated like a win by Austria...
🔝🪄 Players with the most successful dribbles made in Europe so far this season (Top 5 Leagues + UWCL combined)🥇 Lotta Wrede (67)🥈 Vicky López (59)🥉 Athenea del Castillo (54) pic.twitter.com/eDWwIou8CZ— stats of woso (@statsofwoso) April 20, 2026 If the senior wnt wants to take a credible next step towards being a WC contender, it has to continue with the coaches integrating talents like this into the starting 11... Wrede possessing a unique combination of being a tall deceptively robust ball winner, and a elite elegant technical dribbler, it should be obvious to grasp why/how she instantly elevates the quality of any teams mid-field. But with Wrede joining Oberdorf, Alara, on the injured list of skillful German wnt CM's, I feel it really important Wück doesn't blame other creative young AM's like Mühlhaus for the teams struggles Vs Austria. Wück needing to focus on truly establishing a system that can accommodate these superior tempo controlling CM options when they finally healthy.
Brand deployed in a CM role alongside Nüsken worked well because Brand's high work rate compensates for both Nüsken's and Senß' inability to dictate tempo. Magull a huge loss for the wnt, Däbritz's passing also an underrated element of this team prior Wück too. I think not having Lohmann, or Lattwein, has also been problematic. The depth should be there eventually... but Wück can't allow the tean shape to regress back to what we witnessed pre/during the Euro's.
I got several factors that contributed to Germany’s lackluster showing; Austria using an rinky dink field that didn’t allow as smooth of an surface and saw quite a few players falling down unexpectedly & generally lack of ball control handling(expect that in Slovenia too) Austria’s basic decision to stay low block & not play in the open field despite having the home field & desperately needing extra points. But maybe relegated to B tier might be an better fit for them these days Wuck’s inability to get the same cohesiveness with the four changes he made from the first game The subs themselves; Mulhaus looked so immobile for an AM position traditionally meant as an playmaker role/Linder been declining compared to the surging Kett/Kuver playing more of an upfront CB than Knaak an defending one. The problem here is when Kuver is especially dribbling up field, it’s leaving behind the skeleton defense of just one CB..and then just watch out if Kuver looses the ball or one errand pass—as previous opponents showed their thoroughly prepared bounce & counter with lightning speed. Furthermore Kuver pushing upwards so much just means more crowding in the forward positions when you really want to find the open space instead. I noticed the u23’s use Landesberger similar wise. and finally using Brand as an go to CF instead of Anyomi, and this after Jule had such an brilliant performance last Tuesday as an classic winger……..why the change, why? @Lohmann maybe it just was the camera angles, but the field in Austria looked a bit smaller than usual. Is it allowed to have smaller field dimensions or all fields in WC qualifiers are required to have exact measurements?
A few other things of note; Germany falls to #4 in FIFA rankings despite not loosing an game, I take it England jumped ahead because they beat the higher ranked Spain Germany’s NT goal scoring history/record is at 999, that’s why you would of thought its players would of tried to knock the lights out of the net in trying to be first to score that one thousand goal! lol
The field in Ried is 105m x 68m like in Nürnberg. Here you can see requirements by UEFA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_stadium_categories Women's European qualifiers is category 2: 100-105 m long and 64-68m wide I thought Linda Bresonik scored the 1000th goal already 2012 in Turkey. Germany has 1603 goals now. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste...eutschen_Fußballnationalmannschaft_der_Frauen
Austria have fired their coach Alexander Schriebl after the 0:0 against Germany and replaced him with Dane Lars Söndergaard.
