As we could all see, Germany would have a lot of the ball Vs Australia, and accomplish very little when it came to generating clear chances on goal... The positives here probably seeing Germany have back to back games where their unbalanced mid-field was still strong enough to gain a lot of possession of the ball; this being something Hrubesch simply didn't even bother to try and ask from his players during the Olympics lol. Something that also really stood out while watching the match, was the lack of quality crossing coming from the wide forwards/FB's. Double teamed for all of the 2nd half, we'd even see successful dribbles fall as low as 45% after being at a slightly disappointing 50% vs England. Forced to play very narrow against Australia's back 5, the post match data pretty much validates my opinion Germany just lacked the necessary quality in mid-field to pass the ball quick enough to move Australian players out of position to generate good chances. And again... beyond the obvious lack of a CAM hurting the team during the first half, I'm looking at the role of Nüsken here, and thinking she's not really contributing what people want to believe...
Not great Vs England, Nüsken would have a lot of touches of the ball Vs Australia, and accomplish very little positive compared to Gräwe who saw herself removed at HT... Nüsken 90 mins Vs Australia... Gräwe 45 mins Vs Australia... Nüsken managing to lose the ball 20 TIMES Vs Australia is crazy lol. And this even worse knowing Senß would only lose the ball 4 times over 90 mins Vs a stronger England mid-field... Again, information like this highlighting why I thought Senß Germany's best player Vs England; not only covering the defensive cracks created by Nüsken's poor positioning, but showcasing good work with the ball too. Even when a more experienced Magull would join the match as Gräwe's replacement, Germany's double 6 remained just as ineffective as it was during the 1st half, in it's attempts to help the team play at the necessary higher tempo to break down Australia defensive posture. Is Nüsken at fault for all of this teams issues, no. But for me, after watching Euro qualifacation, and the Olympics, where Nüsken held within a prominent status for this team, I think we've seen enough to understand in the future construction of a balanced wnt, the coaches need to move on from the idea Nüsken as a starting level player right now. Nüsken able to be a DM, but not better than Senß, Gräwe, or Oberdorf as the best DM Pivot choices. And without Oberdorf who should be the teams #1 CM option in future, Germany still has Lattwein, Däbritz, Lohmann, who I believe ALL better than Nüsken within a box to box role... Maybe over time Nüsken will develop a more complete skill-set, based around her finally finding herself a clear/defined role where she can excel. But with the wnt's various mid-field options, I've not seen anything to justify why Nüsken needs to be forced into the wnt's starting 11 anymore..
Mainly on the bench for Frankfurt, 23yo Aehling just started both games at CB for the u23's... So.... are we really about to see a regular impressive club level starter CB like Pucks ignored lol, with Aehling being the next defensive option being brought into the senior wnt squad...?

I don't know why Künzer is allowing this to persist.... but there's still no clear sign of any tactical continuity being added across the whole wnt program.... And what makes this worse, is knowing after the u17's would become the first Germany wnt age group to fail reaching a FIFA finals (they didn't even reach the UEFA finals), we have their coach (Melanie Behringer) starting her latest Euro's qualification using a completely random 3-4-3 formation... Both the u19's and u23's using a 4-3-3 with a single DM pivot, while the senior team utilised a 4-2-3-1 for Wück's first two matches. Even if she's having to battle with Neid to implement various decisions, at some point Künzer will need to actually start running the whole program, and not just oversee the fate of the senior wnt...
The u17's face Belgium next, but considering the ease Belgium appear to have had facing the same opponents Germany have struggled to beat, it's hard to envision this side winning the final game of their latest group stage... The u17's previously looking HORRIBLE during the last Euro qualification stage, not having any clear patterns of play, and not possessing any form of credible offense either; it's concerning to think this age group is now struggling to beat lower ranked programs... Whatever Behringer or the program as a whole thinks their accomplishing here, I don't understand what they hope to gain by forcing these young players into a 3-4-3 system, when the entire programs focus on player development has absolutely nothing to do with this style of play...
Peter also confirmed players who participated at the u20 WC were intentionally left out of the first u23 squad for protection from potential physical strain.
Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Scotland This is the group for the Nations League which begins in February 2025. ^^
League A A1: Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Scotland A2: France, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland A3: Spain, England, Belgium, Portugal A4: Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Wales Lol.. once again Germany and Austria will meet each other within a qualification group stage..., and because I thought it was rare to see Germany's wnt facing Scotland, I did a quick check and saw that the last time these two wnt's would meet at senior level would happen 2013... (3-0 win for Germany)
Will the Nation’s League be used to qualify for a major world tourney like the previous Olympics? & is it once again that only the group leader gets to go into the playoff round ———————————————————- Austria & Scotland shouldn’t be much of an challenge; despite an avalanche of Austrians playing in the Bundesliga(20+) so far this season, none of them are making great impressions (starting NT striker, Campbell, has yet to score for Freiburg). Scotland might have some well known players, but loosing their last NL game 6-0, shows that their not well balanced squad For Netherlands & parity’s sake, hopefully potential superstar Lily Yohannes decides to join their NT and not the US(where she was born). Supposedly super coach, Wuck, is right now 1-1, and on the verge of breaking Germany’s all time loss record for a single year. So please wake up & get away from forcing too much technical nonsense on it’s players & more time on getting them on the scoreboard!
Group winners of League A qualify for Nations League final. The qualifiers for World Cup 2027 will be played in the same format as the Nations League so Nations League 2025 should be relevant for World Cup Qualifying groups composition. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/uefa-women-world-cup-2027-qualifiers.2132879/ Campbell scored against Leipzig and Leverkusen*. *We still don't know if the match Freiburg - Leverkusen will be replayed
The last 8 matches between Netherlands and Germany has seen Netherlands Win 1, Draw 1, Lose 6; Germany Women Win 6, Draw 1, Lose 1. The last 4 encounters... UEFA WNL 2024: Netherlands 0 - 2 Germany Friendly 2023: Netherlands 0 - 1 Germany Friendly 2021: Netherlands 2 - 1 Germany Friendly 2016: Germany 4 -2 Netherlands The last 4 matches between Germany and Austria has seen Germany Win 4, Draw 0, Lose 0; Austria Win 0, Draw 0, Lose 4 The last 4 encounters... UEFA Euro's Q 2024: Germany 4 - 0 Austria UEFA Euro's Q 2024: Austria 2 - 3 Germany UEFA Euro's Finals 2022: Germany 2 - 0 Austria Friendly 2018: Germany 3 - 1 Austria Scotland being an unknown factor for Germany, have seen themselves promoted back to League A as a wnt who's seen good performances often overshadowed by a few heavy defeats Vs top ranked opponents. So this WNL group is obviously tougher than the last one, but I'd like to believe Germany would also be a much improved side at the point in time these games are played too. Meaning not having to endure anymore of the frustratingly erratic displays witnessed under Hrubesch lol.
LOL... looking at some of Germany's attacking stats, I noticed Gwinn has a better goal scoring and assists rate than Brand...; oh, and this with both players featuring in 55 games for the wnt too... Schüller has a very impressive record of 45 goals in 67 matches, making it clear regardless of her continued struggles with Bayern that she should remain a key part of the future wnt's identity. But building a team to actually win a tournament again, I'm thinking not only will Wück need to truly address the issues defence, but will also need to find at least two more new legit goal threats... Bringing Hoffmann into his first squad, and then starting her Vs England was.... an interesting choice lol. But if this type of brave decision making is set to continue, hopefully it see's even surprising new faces introduced as attacking options too, as this wnt still remains far too dependant on Bühl's goals and assists. In other words... Germany will probably need to see the rise of another elite foal threat soon...
This time the formation changes to using a back 4, they still concede lol, but manage to find a way back to top the group... Clearly this team has a tough time scoring goals, and struggles to keep opponents from scoring against them, so there's still a lot to improve if Behringer wants to reach her first Euro's finals as head coach of the u17's.
Yohannes has just committed to playing for the USWNT—-taking it that it pays better, but another missed opportunity for an Euro squad I started coming on these forums back in 2013 thinking Euros would be thr future of woso, but wasn’t expecting rich countries to be so cheap with their women’s supposedly professional soccer programs—-well if things don’t change, the US & Rest of the World will continue to dominate.
I think you missed this part of my post... Gwinn: 55 games, 14 goals, 8 of these from PK's. Leaving 6 goals from open play. Brand: 55 games, 9 goals from open play. One player being a wide forward, the other a RB, if you combine the goals of these positionally different individuals alongside their assists produced during 55 games of general play, yes... just like I said... Gwinn has a surprisingly better goals scoring and assists rate than Brand. But if you feel my points on Gwinn being a surprisingly better offensive threat than Brand are somehow disingenuous, I'm pretty sure you know exactly where to find the appropriate data to invalidate what I'm highlighting here.. As I know a lot of data not 100% complete, all the data I'm seeing on both these players offensive attributes has Gwinn slightly ahead of Brand right now, with Brand's shooting percentages, and her crossing numbers, both being frustratingly terrible overall too... Within general play Gwinn creates more chances for others, and has more of her shots on target too. Which is why this was so interesting to me, as Brand clearly isn't functioning correctly as a wide forward, refusing to complete many of the basic tasks that would not only benefit her team, but see her finally start to unleash some of her full potential.
