Solano out for the year due to an ACL tear, we're surely seeing some new CB additions come into Wück's first wnt squad...

Following the retirement's of Frohms and Hegering, alongside the futures of both Hendrich and Doorsoun seemingly being undecided too, news about Solano's long term injury status has completely changed the look of the wnt's central defence...:speechless:

Right now Kleinherne the only young CB with prior wnt experience who could step up as a relatively known quantity to face England. But beyond Kleinherne, and maybe Wolter, I think the lack of option surely results in wnt coaches looking for some new names to be introduced now...:cautious:

German CB's playing for their clubs right now consist of Leverkusen having Ostermeier, RB Leipzig using the 3 of Landenberger, Krug, Räcke, Freiburg using Steuerwald, Werder Bremen mainly using Ulbrich, Essen using Pucks, with Köln having Hechler.

And I honestly, looking at these names, I hope it doesn't result in the coaches seeing this as another reason to continue the frustrating practice of using CM's like Nüsken, or Minge, in CB roles...:(

Personally I think Krug is someone who could play well at a higher level, with me having previously liked what I saw from Steuerwald too, but never understanding why she'd spend a year wasting everyone's time in a CM role last season, while Minge would revert into being a CB...

Just looking at various attributes, I see Steuerwald and Puck's as the best CB's aerially, with both winning a lot of headers. Hechler the fastest CB. Ulbrich as a CB the best progressive passer. Krug being a strong 1v1 defender who'll make a lot of blocks and interceptions.

Having me hope the new wnt coaches disconnect the senior wnt from the awful player analysis department, allowing defenders from lower ranked clubs to finally join the senior wnt, as there's at least 2 more names they can call on as fully capable international talents.

Both Hendrich, and Doorsoun, are convinced to stay. Kleinherne comes back, Wolter potentially asked to change roles, with Krug, Pucks, or Steuerwald, brought in as the new faces...

I want to say yes to both... but I'm honestly not sure it makes complete sense to bring in two more 30+ age players, for a new coach trying to develop a new look team...

Dallmann always a significantly better wide forward than a CAM, but if it means competing with Bühl, Brand, Endemann, knowing Sellner set to return, as other young options like Bender all showcasing signs of touching their potential... that's a lot of talented younger competition for Dallmann to beat.

And while I genuinely believe it was a massive error to leave Magull out of the Olympic squad, with the rise of young CAM's like Kowalski, Kögel, and Fudalla, all showcasing legit improvement... maybe it's time for the coaches to begin looking beyond Magull...:(

Between Magull and Dallmann, selecting Dallmann for the first two matches of the new era makes most sense. However... looking towards the Euro's, I'm not convinced Dallmann should be selected ahead of younger wide forwards, who could easily be similar or more effective for the wnt...:cautious:

Oh.. and I really hope Cerci is brought in to the wnt ahead of Freigang...:coffee:

"For a total of 18 years, including almost fourteen and a half years in the senior team, I had the good fortune and the great honour of wearing the jersey of the German national team with full pride," the 33-year-old explained her retirement from the DFB team today, Monday. "I have always emphasized that my gut will make the decision, and now it has decided. After long, tearful considerations, I have decided with a heavy heart to end my national team career. The fire that ignited in me 18 years ago and grew stronger from year to year has now almost burned out. It was always important to me to make this drastic decision myself, I alone from within. Neither my body, which is a ticking time bomb, nor any other person should beat me to it. Before the fire is completely extinguished - because then it would be too late - now is the right time."

Weird timing, couldn't she have waited AFTER Euro 2025 to retire?

the current timing feels more like fallout from Popp’s poor performance in yesterday’s game

Sad news re Poppi but I guess we knew it was coming sometime soon. Possibly she feels she just doesn't have the drive to get up for yet another major tournament next year.

Its understandable considering the amount of times she has suffered injuries on the eve of major matches....she clearly has tremendous mental strength but everybody has limits. I really hope she plays at club level for as long as she wants to then goes into coaching, think she could be a great future manager.
I'm very happy I had the privilage of seeing her play down here in Australia last year, saw her score one of her trademark headers.

What does her poor performance against Frankfurt have to do with the German national team? Seems like a rushed decision rather..

half the German NT is from Wolfsburg. At one point, nine Wolfsburg players were on the field together vs S Korea at last year’s WC. WOB just acquired two more recent NT starters in Minge & Linder. Outside Bayern’s influence, WOB & the NT’s personnel are practically the same team
Popp always seems to have a flare for the dramatic, so it could have been rushed decision. It also could have been behind the scenes talk with Wuck, who might of wanted to take the NT in a different direction.
