Ridiculous that it was even a penalty in the first place but Berger’s been incredible. I never rated Frohms that high anyways, Berger for me always being the superior player otheriwse, like Batfink’s said, this German team hasn’t been playing anywhere close to their potential at all
Berger saves a last minute PK, Germany win Bronze... the days of terrorism football are finally over....
You did it Horst, you did it !!! The team really made it to Paris and won the bronze. Great fighting spirit. What a penalty save from Berger.
Why? Because Spain missed the penalty? Lohmann at least shot the penalty in a way that no goalkeeper could save it.
Thanks to the various awful tactical decisions coming from the coaches, Germany wouldn't score a single goal in normal play during the knockout phase of this tournament, making Berger's contributions Vs Canada, and now Spain, the most MVP like elements of this teams Bronze medal success in France. Plus seeing Popp, Hegering, Hendrich, all grouped together at by themselves hugging and crying, to me would also hint at this game probably being the end of them having any further role on the future of this team. So... again, within the context of the general poor standard of Germany's football, knowing the quality of opponent Minge - Nüsken were trying to compete with, having the attack constantly held hostage to whatever Brand does... while not a great series of performance to watch, this was as good as we could have expected from this team. Oh, and it's nice to see Germany maintain their unbeaten record Vs a currently superior Spain at senior level. As I genuinely expect these two nations be facing each other again deep into more major tournaments, with Germany thankfully still showing no signs of an inferiority complex.
A tournament holding no real importance towards Germany's future, Hrubesch leaves the wnt with another 3rd place finish at an Olympic games, and now we FINALLY get to see what Künzer fought for; this being the full introduction of Wück. Wück alongside Meinert seen at numerous games live, I'll be very interested to see who stays and who departs the squad Hrubesch has consistently selected in his 2nd run with the team. But if I was throwing out some random thoughts... I'd say we could be about to see as much as much as 6 Olympic team members removed, or have significantly diminished roles with the new coaches... And what's strange about that... I don't think it means we'll being seeing a significantly younger element enter the team as replacements...
