Germany played well but couldn't finish the job. I guess we will be seeing the predictable Spain vs USA final
Almost Freigang Very good match from the german team. Gave everything. Can`t ask for more considering the circumstances. Danke Horst !!!
Two extra times played and only three days until the bronze medal match. I can only hope that Popp and Schüller will be back.
I saw the starting 11, saw the formation, and knew the only way this would end is in defeat. But 120 mins to see them lose thanks to ANOTHER damn individual defensive error... wow. Linder on the bench as an unused sub, when you also have enough players to change your formation to a 3-4-3/3-5-2, easing the need for Rauch to defend 1v1... no...lets use another stupid ass 4-4-2, with all the attack focused on getting the terrorism level decision making of Brand on the ball...... great. Even Freigang would show up really late find another perfect opportunity to repeat her trick of wasting important moments to save her team from defeat lol. So let the Wück era begin, because I'm honestly done watching this program look like it just stepped out of the tactical stone ages....
Overall, I think the story of this game comes down to Germany simply doing a far better job of winning more of their duels, and generally making more tackles. The 1st half team selection and the 4-4-2 formation being poor, would see the team performance improve during the 2nd half with Nüsken - Minge being joined with Lohmann moving centrally. But with Bühl constantly helping Rauch, the attack always remained too focused on whatever Brand wants to do, in the process placing a major limitation on how effective this team could be in transition. So while Brand a talented player, it was always too much to expect her with such a low football IQ to run the attack alongside Anoymi, never gaining the assistance of a 3rd or 4th player capable of creating chances. No tactical adjustments until the second period of ET was also incredibly frustrating to witness, with this game also feeling like Germany were playing away from home with the combination of atmosphere, and randomly poor referee decisions... More than Germany simply surviving for 90+ mins before eventually losing... while the performance had some positive points, it's still frustrating seeing the awful record Vs the US continue in this way.
Like I've said previously, Germany would not even be in this competition without the help of Hrubesch, and with some better luck with injuries, he could have potentially reached a major final with a group of player many felt complete failures too. But in his second run with this team, I think we've seen why his only the interim coach for Germany's wnt, and not the individual to lead Germany's women back to competing for titles. Making the Bronze medal match only relevant to the personal pride of the players and coaches involved. Not trying to diminish the legacy of Hrubesch, I feel this tournament just signals the end of the frustratingly low quality decade of football with Neid, Jones, MVT leading the senior team. What comes after the Olympics with Wück and Meinert, the moment we get to see what Germany can be with modern ideas, real tactics, and a long term vision from a legit coach.
